The Cast Of ‘Big Little Lies’ Has The Craziest Connection

The series finale of Big Little Lies airs tonight and honestly, we’re in denial. Season 2 of the hit HBO drama has been packed to the brim with delicious, heartbreakingly beautiful drama. The cast of the outstanding show has done a phenomenal job of propelling the story forward and we can’t wait to see how things pan out. As fascinating as the relationships are between the Monterrey Five and Mary Louise Perry, the relationships between the actresses who play these characters are even more enchanting to witness. In fact, every single one of the female leads have a connection to one or more of the others that’s completely independent of Big Little Lies.

The Cast of Big Little Lies

Perhaps that what makes the show one of the best, is the brilliant chemistry that each member of the ensemble cast brings forth. Naturally, the scenes would fall completely flat if not for the incredible talent that each woman showcases, but what also helps catapult the show into greatness is the familiarity that these women share. Of course, some of this familiarity comes from working on a passion project together, but a lot of the familiarity draws upon connections that the cast shared prior to Big Little Lies.

Everyone’s connected

The lives of the cast are so intertwined, it’s almost laughable. Of course, there’s the obvious production partnership between Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz played best friends in the Divergent trilogy, and Kravitz also knew Kidman prior to Big Little Lies because Kidman dated her father, Lenny Kravitz, many moons ago.

Speaking of parents, Laura Dern played Woodley’s mother in The Fault In Our Stars and also starred alongside Witherspoon in Wild. And just in case you thought we somehow forgot about the legend that is Meryl Streep, she and Dern also worked together on Little Women. The cast truly couldn’t get more connected if they tried.

A life-changing experience

Those crazy connections certainly serve the cast and the story of Big Little Lies. And viewers aren’t the only ones who feel that the show is something spectacular. Every member of the cast has admitted that their experience on the show has been like anything else. In a recent interview with InStyle, Witherspoon gushed about the incredible impact Big Little Lies has left on her.

“It’s truly one of the greatest experiences of my career. I feel like a door opened, and I’ll never go back the other way. When I watch the episodes, I’m always texting them saying, ‘You blew me away.’ I’m in awe of their talent and our collective ability to express on such a deep level, have joy on such a high level, and celebrate each other. It’s the most fulfilling expression of the female experience I’ve ever had on film — particularly when Meryl Streep shows up. That’s when you’re like, ‘Oh, we are doing something right” the Legally Blonde actress confessed.

We’re so sad to be saying farewell The Monterrey Five tonight, and we’d bet the cast of this outstanding show feels the same. That said, we’re so grateful to have gotten the opportunity to go on another journey with these characters. After all, season two of Big Little Lies was never supposed to happen. For now, we’ll just be content with Mary Louise getting what’s coming to her. After all, the devil wears cardigans.
