ABC’s new series Big Sky has finally premiered, and it left fans utterly shocked by what they saw. The first episode held a surprise ending, but some viewers knew it was coming before it even happened from either reading the novels by C.J. Box on which the series is based, or they tuned in for Good Morning America ahead of the premiere episode.

A major character was killed off in the premiere

The new series from David E. Kelley introduces fans to a variety of characters, including Cody Hoyt (Ryan Phillippe), a private investigator, and his wife, Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick), an ex-cop who is having marital problems with her husband, as they are separated. Fans also meet Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury), Cody’s investigator partner. However, there’s drama because Cody and Cassie have been seeing each other romantically, and Jenny knows about it.

Cody and Jenny’s son Justin’s (Gage Marsh) girlfriend, Danielle (Natalie Alyn Lind), goes missing along with her sister, Grace (Jade Pettyjohn), after being kidnapped by a truck driver named Ronald Pergman (Brian Geraghty) on a rural road in Montana. Cody, Jenny, and Cassie team up to find them.

Cody meets up with a state trooper named Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch), who is supposed to help him, but ends up shooting and killing Cody in a shocking turn of events. No one yet knows what’s happened to him, but it’s only a matter of time. It was a surprising premiere, but some fans might have known it was coming.

Kylie Bunbury gave away the major twist ahead of the premiere

The new series premiered on November 17, 2020, at 10 p.m. E.S.T. That day, the main actors in the show – Phillippe, Winnick, and Bunbury – made an appearance on Good Morning America to talk about it.

They were all asked to describe their reactions to the premiere episode, and Bunbury accidentally slipped with her answer, giving away the major plot twist about Phillippe’s character and Cody’s death.

“I was shocked as well and really excited that ABC is taking a chance like this,” she explains in the official video from Good Morning America. But according to The Wrap, she actually continued talking and added: “…to kill off a star like Ryan. And I also had some deep thoughts about what his fans are going to think about it.”

Winnick actually laughed it off and added, “Spoiler” as well as “Oops” after the comment by her co-star.

‘Big Sky’: What Did Viewers Really Think of the Premiere Episode?

What did Kathryn Winnick think when her co-star spoiled the twist?

Winnick recently spoke on The View on November 24, 2020, and she was candid about the incident with her co-star. In a video posted on the ABC News website of a portion of the episode, Winnick is asked what “went through” her head at that point, and she didn’t hold back.

“Honestly, I was just flabbergasted,” Winnick revealed. “I could not believe that my co-star, right before it aired, leaked and spoiled that, the main show, the main part of the show was the fact that we kill off our main actor, Ryan Phillippe. It was literally, you should see our faces. My friends actually took a screen capture of my face the moment it happened.”

Although Bunbury gave it away, it was still a shocking moment in the premiere of Big Sky. We’ll have to see what the rest of the series holds. Episodes air on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. E.S.T.
