The Big Sky Season 2 premiere confused many fans with Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch) and Ronald Pergman (Brian Geraghty). However, it wasn’t Rick back from the dead as many thought. Viewers found out that Rick had a twin brother, Wolfgang Legarski, and he’s not as evil as Big Rick. At least according to what Wolf says in Big Sky Season 2 Episode 2, “Huckleberry,” Wolf wants to undo the evil his brother did in the world.

Is Rick Legarski dead?

Rick Legarski died in Big Sky Season 1 when his wife bashed his head in with a hammer. In Big Sky Season 1 Episode 5, Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury) thought Rick Legarski might be at the abandoned All-In truck stop. She found Rick standing at the bottom of a stairway and heard muffled screams from Jerrie (Jesse James Keitel), Grace (Jade Pettyjohn), and Danielle (Natalie Alyn Lind). In a face-off, Cassie shot Rick in the head and rescued the girls.

In the following episodes, Rick woke up from a coma and appeared to have short-term memory loss. However, his wife, Merrilee (Brooke Smith), did not believe his story. In Big Sky Season 1 Episode 9, she heard Rick Legarski apologizing to the women he sent to the sex trafficking ring. She realized he was lying about his memory loss the same day his attorney told Merrilee how Rick could avoid prison. The thought of Rick getting away with everything did not sit well with her, so Merrillee took matters into her own hands and killed her husband.

‘Big Sky’: Everything viewers need to know about Wolfgang Legarski

Wolfgang Legarski’s goal in Big Sky Season 2 is to reverse the evil his brother, Rick, unleashed on the world. He’s starting his mission by reforming serial killer Ronald Pergman and his girlfriend, Scarlet Leyendecker (Anja Savcic). Wolfgang is a dog trainer and author of a book about training dogs. He has numerous farm animals on the remote land where he lives and treats Ronald like one of his dogs. Wolf is happily married to Agatha (Romy Rosemont), who teaches Scarlet about gardening in Big Sky Season 2 Episode 2.

“This is basic animal kingdom stuff,” Wolf tells Ronald in episode 2. “Law of the jungle. Lex Talionis, my friend.”

If he can’t cooperate, Wolf explains to Ronald that he will die. Lex Talionis is the law of retaliation, and Wolf is ready to use it if Ronald doesn’t fall into line like his girlfriend, Scarlet.

“She is a creature so full of life,” Wolf gestured to Scarlet. “It makes me think there’s still a little bit of good in you to attract such a fine woman.”

In Big Sky, Wolf Legarski abides by the laws of nature and the jungle. He plans to train Ronald to be a productive member of the Wolf ranch.

Insight from John Carroll Lynch about his Legarski characters in ‘Big Sky’

In a recent interview, actor John Carroll Lynch opened up about the dynamic between the Legarski brothers in Big Sky. Lynch is happy to work with showrunner Elwood Reid who joined the series in the second half of season 1.

“One of the things that Elwood and I talked about was that Wolf has had to clean up after his brother their whole lives, and this is yet another circumstance in which he’s had to do that,” Lynch told Deadline.
