Billie Eilish may be one of the biggest artists on the planet, but the 19-year-old is still getting used to fame. Eilish was the talk of the internet when the photos from her British Vogue cover hit the internet. Instead of her usual baggie T-Shirts and sweat pants, the singer was dressed in sultry fitted attire.

Now, Eilish says the reaction from those photos makes her never want to post on social media again. And, she revealed the real reason she wore a corset to begin with.

How did Billie Eilish become famous?

Eilish was raised in a household where expression was encouraged. Her parents decided that homeschool was the best option for the singer and her producer brother, Finneas O’Connell. Eilish’s father is actor, Patrick O’Connell, who has had roles in everything from The West Wing to Iron Man. Meanwhile, the singer’s mother, Maggie Baird, is also a singer, songwriter, and actor.

Growing up, the 19-year-old always loved performing, and when she was just 13, her dance teacher asked her to write a song for one of the performances. The song instantly went viral when it was posted on the internet, and Eilish’s celebrity has only been soaring from there.

Since then, she has transitioned from a well-known internet artist to signing major record deals and winning Grammy Awards.

Billie Eilish has spoken openly about body positivity

Known for her mega-talent, Eilish has always been aware of how women and teen girls are sexualized and objectified in the entertainment industry. When she first rose to fame in 2016, the “Bad Guy” singer took control of her image by wearing baggy oversized clothes that were often from the men’s section.

She said she chose to wear clothes that did not hint at her figure so that “nobody can have an opinion” about her body. However, as she’s gotten older, especially with her British Vogue cover, Eilish has decided to branch out more with her clothing, even if it means showing a bit more skin than fans are used to seeing from her.

“My thing is that I can do whatever I want,” she told British Vogue. “It’s all about what makes you feel good. If you want to get surgery, go get surgery. If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing, f*ck it – if you feel like you look good, you look good.”

However, the reaction to Eilish’s British Vogue cover where she’s showcasing her new blonde look and dressed like a 1950’s pin-up star earned a ton of backlash and support. Fans were taken about after seeing her in a bustier, stockings, and heels.

The singer said the whole thing has been an “amazing” but “scary” experience. “I think it more just makes me never want to post again,” she explained on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “I feel like I wanted to post more when less people cared, and now that more people care, it’s scary to me.”

She also revealed that she chose to wear a corset because of major body insecurity. “If I’m honest with you, I hate my stomach, and that’s why,” she said.
