Billie Eilish and Lorde have similarities

It’s true that Eilish and Lorde have a few things in common. Both Eilish and Lorde released EPs before they turned 18 years old. Until Eilish’s “Bad Guy” release in 2019, Lorde was the youngest artist to reach the top of Billboard charts. As far as their inspirations go, Eilish and Lorde have both said that they listened to a little bit of everything growing up, according to 34th Street. Both singers also created their own images in the public eye when they became famous.

However, as 34th Street pointed out, Eilish may not necessarily be “the new Lorde,” as some fans have suggested. Their stories may be similar, but Eilish and Lorde do have differences in their music, and they both successfully exist at the same time.

Eilish will soon release her second album, Happier Than Ever, on July 30. Meanwhile, Lorde has teased that she’ll release a new album sometime this summer or in the fall.

Are Billie Eilish and Lorde friends?

In a June 2021 interview with BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, Lorde (whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor) spoke about the comparisons between her and Eilish and revealed if they’re friends.

“We have sent just a few little messages back in the day when she was very young. She’s so, so sweet,” Lorde said. “There’s only a handful of people who understand what that’s like, to be a teenager and have that level of scrutiny on your body and your brain.”

The singer added that she’s close with her family, and so is Eilish with her own family, which can be helpful to young artists “when your world is changing.”

“She’s just doing such a good job,” Lorde concluded of Eilish.

What Happened to Lorde?

Eilish’s and Lorde’s fans have been begging for the two to collaborate for years. Back in 2018, Eilish performed a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” on Like a Version, which Lorde complimented, according to ABC. Many fans immediately requested that the two singers work together on a song, but a collaboration has yet to occur.

In an interview with Jenesais Pop that year, Eilish spoke about the potential for a collaboration with Lorde.

“Lorde is a friend, and a sweetheart, and everything she does she does so well, and so hers … everything Lorde has done is perfectly Lorde, it’s like no one has done anything like that,” Eilish said. “As for collaborating, we haven’t talked about it, I don’t know. It’s like I already love it as a person, you know? It’s very cool to have become friends with those who were my idols, it’s like crazy for me.”
