BLACKPINK is releasing a new album

BLACKPINK will release their first Korean studio album, Blackpink: The Album, on Oct. 2, 2020. The K-pop group’s comeback is split up into three different parts. On June 26, 2020, they released their single “How You Like That,” the first part of their comeback. The song reached No. 1 on iTunes in the U.S. and achieved 86.3 million views on YouTube within the first 24 hours.

“This single is a more intense hip-hop song but at the same time maintains the original colour and personality of BLACKPINK. The message talks about [how] in any given situation, we will not lose confidence and will rise, despite the circumstances we’re in,” BLACKPINK told British Vogue.

The K-pop group told TIME, “We believe that this song contains the message that even in the darkest times, we should persevere and fight through. We want everyone to find strength through our music.”

BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez will collaborate

In July 2020, BLACKPINK announced there would be a second pre-release single leading up to their album. The new single would be the second part of their comeback and would also feature a collaboration with another artist.

A teaser poster showed Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, Lisa, and a question mark teasing the surprise collaboration, and the poster did not reveal the title of the track or its release date. YG Entertainment later announced Gomez was the surprise feature, and the song “Ice Cream” would be released at midnight EST and 1 p.m. KST on Aug. 28.

Building the hype for the already highly-anticipated song, a music video teaser was released on Aug. 26. The teaser builds the suspense even more and hints at the fun and summery tone of the song without giving any of the actual music away.

What fans think of the ‘Ice Cream’ teaser

After the teaser was posted, fans of BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez discussed the teaser on social media. On Twitter, “selena” and “#IceCreamMVTeaser” trended as fans talked about the upcoming single. In a Reddit thread, fans expressed how excited they are for the collaboration.

“That’s definitely a tease because i have no idea what the song will be like from this haha, the ‘ice cream’ part doesn’t totally sound like the pinkest concept under the sun, but the visuals definitely go in that direction so it will be more of a bubblegum concept without a doubt (not that there was much reason to doubt it),” wrote a Reddit user.

“Betting my life based on a 28-second mv teaser that the editing was well done. Ahhhhhh cant wait for tomorrow, they all look so cute,” one Reddit user wrote.

Another Reddit user wrote, “I was nervous as to what the MV would look like with them both filming in different countries but from the teaser here it looks like they could pull this off really well, one more day…one more day.”
