There’s no denying BLACKPINK’s debut made a massive impact on fans in 2016. BLINKs were in awe of the group’s potential following early hits like “Boombayah” and “Kill This Love.” Now, four years later, members Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé are set to release their first full-length studio album. But why is now the right time for the band to unveil their debut record? In a recent interview, Rosé revealed why BLACKPINK is ready to drop The Album.

BLACKPINK release date and time for ‘The Album’

BLACKPINK will release The Album on Friday, Oct. 2, at 12 a.m. ET (1 p.m. KST). The quartet already released hit songs like “How You Like That” and “Ice Cream” featuring Selena Gomez. Then in September 2020, the official tracklist was revealed.

The Album will consist of 8 songs, including “Pretty Savage,” “Crazy Over You,” “Love To Hate Me,” and “Bet You Wanna,” which will feature Cardi. B. BLINKs can also look forward to “Lovesick Girls” as the title track.

BLACKPINK’s Rosé answers why ‘The Album’ is being released four years after the group’s debut

While BLACKPINK debuted four years before releasing The Album, the group hasn’t lost steam since they first appeared on the scene. In fact, it seems the quartet used the time to explore their craft and perfect their sound.

“We had four years to kind of build our own colors as BLACKPINK,” Rosé told GRAMMY.com in September 2020. “Throughout the four years, we got to explore different genres and really find out our exact, distinct colors. So, I feel like [in] this album, we were able to put our prepared music style and contribute with new music genres that we’re still exploring recently.”

She continued, “I think now is the best time to come out, because any later would be too late. And any earlier, we might have been in a rush. We definitely feel like, right now, we are fully ready to put out a full completed album.”

The singer also shared the band was “stoked” when they found out their upcoming release would be a full-length feature. “We do know that our fans have been waiting for this moment for a very, very long time,” Rosé said. “We were very excited but also nervous at the same time because we do know that it is a big deal. It’s the first time we were able to put all of our colors into something.”

What BLACKPINK says about ‘The Album’

For the most part, it seems BLACKPINK’s The Album will be a collection of variety. Still speaking with GRAMMY.com, Lisa noted the group hopes to “put more colors” into their forthcoming album.

“I wish each member has a stronger presence on the stage and explores more various genres,” she said. “I hope people don’t know what to expect from us, except for something better than before. We want to be unpredictable.”

Jennie echoed her bandmate’s remarks, hinting The Album will be filled with “surprises” and things they haven’t tried before.

“We just want to bring something new,” she said. “The album is cool, you know, and we tried to put together all the colors of BLACKPINK that we’ve built before into one.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with Dazed Korea, Jisoo shared she wanted to “show a stronger version of BLACKPINK” through The Album

“Along with the sides of us that we’ve presented so far, we’ve prepared a lot more of our various charms,” she said, according to Soompi.

Whatever happens on Oct. 2, BLINKs know BLACKPINK will continue to deliver hits, as they’ve done since 2016.

“We don’t think we’ve changed significantly since our debut and have maintained the same mindset,” BLACKPINK told Time Magazine in June 2020. “We are proud that as a group, we continue to release music that we are all satisfied with.”
