Selena Gomez is rumored to appear on BLACKPINK’s single

BLACKPINK first hinted about the new pre-release single on social media. The teaser poster shows members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, Lisa, and a question mark teasing a surprise collaboration. After MyDaily reported Gomez was the artist in question, both BLACKPINK and Gomez began trending on Twitter.

“Now whether the collab is with Selena or Ariana can we appreciate how Blackpink only collaborate with the top women in pop? The last two were so powerful and another one is on the way. @Blackpink,” a fan tweeted.

Another fan tweeted, “Selena has been an icon for as long as I can remember. Being on Barney as a kid and being the star in Wizards of Waverly Place all while having a successful music career too. If the rumors are true and she will be featuring on BLACKPINK’s next single I’m sure it will be a hit!”

“i just went through blackpink’s discography and Jisoo sings like an angel? imagine Selena and Jisoo harmonizing??? ya we not ready,” wrote a Twitter user.

YG Entertainment responded to the rumors

After the rumored collaboration spread throughout social media, BLACKPINK’s label YG Entertainment issued a brief statement.

“Please wait for the official announcement later,” the company commented according to Soompi.

The K-pop group’s comeback consists of three parts. BLACKPINK’s single “How You Like That” was released on June 26 with an accompanying music video. The music video proceeded to break the record for the most-viewed video in its first 24 hours of release on YouTube. “How You Like That” also reached No. 1 on iTunes in the U.S.

The upcoming single with the mystery collaboration will drop sometime in August 2020. These two pre-release singles are part of the rollout for BLACKPINK’s first studio album, The Album, which will drop on Oct. 2, 2020.

Who the collaboration could be with

Before the rumors spread that the K-pop group would collaborate with Gomez on their August single, fans heavily suspected the band could have worked with Ariana Grande. In 2019, Grande told a fan she would be interesting in collaborating with the group.

After the single was announced, Grande liked Jennie’s Instagram post about the single. This could be interpreted as Grande hinting she is the surprise feature, or she was just being supportive of Jennie.

Earlier this year, the band collaborated with Lady Gaga on her studio album Chromatica. The album was released in May 2020, and BLACKPINK was featured on the track “Sour Candy.”

“We spoke with Lady Gaga over a phone call and she said that she liked our unique characteristics as a group,” the K-pop group told British Vogue. “We’ve all really liked Lady Gaga since before our debut days, so it was a huge honour for us to be able to work with her.”

If the band does not collaborate with Lady Gaga again or Grande, Gomez seems like a likely option. It is worth noting that Gomez and BLACKPINK both release music under Interscope Records.
