They’re not married yet, but Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are already well on their way to creating lasting holiday traditions with each other. Now that these two lovebirds are spending their fifth Christmas together, a few very sweet and enviable patterns are starting to emerge. We can see why Shelton and Stefani always have such big smiles on their faces — could these two be any cuter together?

This modern family takes Christmas seriously. This includes a couple of very special, slightly surprising traditions that Shelton and Stefani both look forward to all year.

Christmas with Shelton and Stefani means time spent with family

Christmas at their house centers on family, which includes Stefani’s three sons from her previous marriage: Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo. Shelton isn’t technically their father. However, Stefani is in awe of his parenting prowess just the same.

“He is a good dad, actually. He’s been helping me out a lot,” she told Today. “I literally get to the point where I’m like, ‘You gotta get home, I need some help.’ It’s hard. I’ve got three boys.”

Christmas morning is ‘chaos’ but also lots of fun

Shelton and Stefani set up a special wrapping paper wall every year to add to the anticipation of Christmas morning.

“At our house, it’s literally chaos,” Blake Shelton explained to E! News. “They have that moment when they run through the wrapping paper wall that she [Stefani] sets up every year. That’s about the only thing that I think consistently happens.”

Shelton and Stefani aren’t the only ones who use the wrapped doorway idea. Apparently, former Fixer Upper hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines do the same thing.

Shelton and Stefani refuse to cook the same meal twice

For plenty of families, holidays mean preparing the same recipes that they use every year. But Shelton and Stefani take the opposite approach.

“Me and Blake will have, like, a tradition of always trying something new,” Stefani told House Beautiful. “[We] just look on the internet and find, like, a recipe, ‘That looks delicious. Let’s try that!’ You know?”

Last year the Shelton and Stefani opted for Timpano Dome, an Italian pasta dish with a buttery crust. “I wanted to do it again,” Gwen continued. “But he’s like, ‘No, our tradition is not a tradition.’ I was like, ‘Okay, let’s move on.'”

Shelton says there’s something different every year

Even though some holiday traditions change year to year, others stay exactly the same. “You know, one year, there will be a fight over a toy that the other ones didn’t get. And the next year, they all get along,” Shelton told House Beautiful.

But one thing that never changes? The love they all have for each other.

Will Shelton propose this year?

Fans of the Voice hosts have been eagerly awaiting wedding news for years now. And rumor has it that day will be here very soon.

A source told PageSix in October: “It was clear within a few months of Gwen and Blake becoming a couple that this was for keeps, it’s now just a matter of when and where. We’re all expecting a wedding soon. I don’t think there will be a big engagement, but they will have an intimate wedding — I would say within the year they’ll be married.”

We hope their holiday tradition this year includes a big sparkly ring!
