The country singer released a new song called “Minimum Wage”. He debuted it on NBC’s New Year’s Eve special with Carson Daly.
The lyrics is about falling in love and feeling “rich” in other ways. There is a lyrics where Shelton sings “Girl, your love can make a man feel rich on minimum wage.” Page Six reports that some people found the lyrics patronizing.
People on Twitter pointed out that the timing of the song isn’t great. Many people lost their jobs or loss money because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Other people mentioned how much Shelton makes along with his fiancée, Gwen Stefani.
Shelton makes millions for doing ‘The Voice’
The country singer has made a lot of money through his music career. But he’s also been making millions for being a coach on The Voice since 2011.
Shelton is one of the highest-paid coaches by earning $13 million per season in 2016, according to The Wrap. It has since been rumored that he and Stefani received bonuses for appearing on the show together.
“Both Blake and Gwen are being paid a bonus for their on-camera flirting and PDA,” a mysterious source told Radar Online. “The bonuses are added on to their holiday bonuses,” the source said.
There are also two seasons of The Voice that airs per year. So Shelton reportedly makes more than $26 million per year for appearing on the show.
Shelton has another avenue for making money. He owns a franchise of a restaurant called Ole Red. There are currently four locations in Tishomingo, OK, Nashville, TN, Gatlinburg, TN, and Orlando, FL.

She then branched out to releasing her own fashion line called L.A.M.B. The singer then eventually joined The Voice as a coach in 2014. That meant she also started taking home a big paycheck for her appearances on the show.
Stefani’s net worth is reportedly about $100 million while Shelton’s net worth is reportedly around $60 million. The couple has been working together a lot more recently by continuing to be coaches on The Voice. They have also released multiple duets together.
Shelton answered if they’ll ever release an album together. “It’s hard for me, honestly,” Shelton said on the Bobby Bones Show. “The more and more time that goes by I’m starting to wonder why even do an album at all. I’m having a blast just putting out singles.”
