The Voice and divorces oddly brought Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani together. They are still together years later and are working together again on the competition show.

Now they are releasing a new duet. Shelton reflected on their relationship when talking about the song. Find out what he had to say about their lives falling apart when they came together and more.

The singers were both going through a divorce in 2015. When Shelton announced his breakup with Miranda Lambert, Stefani reached out to him.

“That’s kind of how our friendship and bond started, that day,” Shelton told Billboard. “It went from that, to checking in on each other once a week through email — ‘This sh*t happened to me, what happened to you?’ — to maybe three times a week, then every day, to ‘Hey, here’s my phone number if you ever want to text.’”

He then sweetly added, “Next thing I know, I wake up and she’s all I care about, and I’m wondering if she feels the same about me.”

They reportedly are taking things slow after falling fast

The couple found love shortly after their breakups. However, that reportedly is leading them to take their time with dating.

“Gwen and Blake fell in love so soon after their marriages ended that they needed to take time to live their new lives together,” a source told ET. “They both were in very difficult situations and relied on one another throughout their process.”

The source continued, “It actually brought them closer together. Blake loves Gwen and had always wanted children, so her boys have been one of the biggest gifts in his life. He raves about them all the time.”

Shelton said their lives fell apart when they got together

The country singer reflected on how he fell in love with Stefani because of their new duet together. That happened during their second season of The Voice together.

“By the second time she came around, both of our lives had basically fallen completely apart,” Shelton told ET. “And little did we know it happened to both of us at the same time and we bonded over that. So somewhere in that time of darkness it ended up being the greatest moment of my life. It’s amazing, it truly is.”

It seems like he believes it was all meant to happen the way it did. “Both of us know that the timing, and the way she and I met and came together, it just felt like home, that’s not an accident,” he said. “I think that the way that she and I were able to save each other’s lives and get ourselves through that time it was evidence to us that God had a hand in it.”

The couple sounds like they’re still very much in love. Their new duet, “Nobody But You” will touch on that.
