The Shadow of the City social media accounts have been quiet — almost too quiet. Proudly dubbed New Jersey’s biggest little festival, Bleachers confirmed that this music celebration would return, even secretly revealing the date of SOTC 2022.

Aside from cowriting music for Taylor Swift, Lorde, and St. Vincent, Jack Antonoff creates and performs original music with Bleachers. He also celebrates his New Jersey roots, filming the “Stop Making This Hurt” music video in Hasbrouck Heights’ Bendix Diner.

Bleachers and Antonoff hosted the Shadow of the City music festival for several consecutive years. Carly Rae Jepsen, The 1975, Japanese Breakfast, Charli XCX, and other musicians stopped by the “SummerStage” to perform.

What made this event even more unique was that Antonoff created it with New Jersey in mind featuring local restaurants and exclusive merchandise. As with most Bleachers tickets, a portion of proceeds were also donated to The Ally Coalition to “fight for LGBTQ Equality.”

“I love music festivals, and I think that with the landscape of the music business rapidly changing, it’s the one thing that is only getting better and more exciting,” Antonoff said during an interview with Rolling Stone

“With all the conversations about the ways people consume music and about streaming, live music is just this rock,” he continued. “I’ve always wanted to do this. Even more than that, I grew up in New Jersey and lived there for 28 years. New Jersey is part of who I am. I’ve always thought that it’s the perfect place for a festival.”

The event takes place almost every year at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, a venue known for its close connection with New Jersey legends like Bruce Springsteen. As an outdoor event, past Shadow of the City Festivals even included a dunk tank and a replica of Antonoff’s childhood bedroom.

Shadow of the City 2022 is currently scheduled for September 2022

In one tweet, the Bleachers account announced patches for sale at their Arizona concert. Some of these featured drawn tomatoes and the date of their 2021 concert. However, one of the patches not-so-secretly revealed the date of Bleachers’ upcoming Shadow of the City festival.

The patch said, “SOTC 2022 — 9.10.22,” complete with a “BLEACHY” written on the bottom. That means Shadow of the City will most likely take place on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at its iconic Asbury Park location.
