It took years but it finally happened. Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) got even closer to the Reagan family on Blue Bloods. Ramirez revealed Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, pushed for the characters to take a big step together.

Maria Baez ate with the Reagans on ‘Blue Bloods’

The Reagans eat together every Sunday and we see that in every episode. It’s a time when they can catch up with each other on their personal lives and work.

But season 11 kicked off with Baez being pushed down the stairs and was hurt. She was then trapped in a basement with Danny. They had a serious talk while they were down there.

“You just have this perfect family and you don’t even realize it half the time,” Baez told him. She also accused his family of being lucky. Danny replied saying Reagan’s luck didn’t work for his dead wife, Linda (Amy Carlson).

Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and Joe Hill (Will Hochman) saved them. However, their problems aren’t over. Danny said the killer they were looking for is a serial killer who is still on the loose.

Donnie Wahlberg pushed for Danny and Baez to take that big step

Danny and Baez are usually just seen working together. But we know they’re close given she was at Jamie and Eddie’s (Vanessa Ray) wedding.

Friends are usually not invited to family dinners. But Ramirez told PopCulture.com, Wahlberg has been “pushing for” Baez to join them for years.

It’s unclear when he started pushing for this but Danny and Baez have been working together since season 3. The show never broke the rule of not having people outside of the family at dinner until its 200th episode.

It’s unlikely Baez will be back again for some time. But some fans are hoping the partners will break bread together again.

‘Blue Bloods’: How Danny and Baez’s Relationship Is ‘Very Similar’ to Donnie Wahlberg and Marisa Ramirez

Danny has been single since he lost his wife. He recently has been getting closer to different women in his life and it sounds like the actor is open to him finding love again.

“I think his connection with Baez has been growing,” he previously told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “I think the medium Maggie played by Callie Thorne has been building an interesting relationship with Danny.”

He noted that whenever Danny does find love again his sons Jack (Tony Terraciano) and Sean (Andrew Terraciano) will be involved at some point. “So I think Danny’s preference is one thing, but I think his two boys are going to have a vote,” he said. “I think they would have to have a say so, too. So if they had a vote, I’m not sure who they would cast it for, but it could be something entirely different for all we know.”

Fans haven’t seen Maggie yet this season. But now we know one possible reason why Baez finally made it to the family’s dinner table.
