Donnie Wahlberg and Amy Carlson played husband and wife for seven seasons on Blue Bloods. That sadly came to an end and Danny Reagan had to figure out how to move forward with their two sons.

Some fans might wonder if the actors still keep in touch. This is what Wahlberg had to say about their relationship and what he misses most about working with her.

It was season 8 when it was revealed Linda died in a helicopter crash. The reason behind the death was because the actress decided to leave the show.

“I heard from my representation that they didn’t work out a deal,” Will Estes told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “So what I heard is that basically, creatively for her, personally, it was time for her to move on and so, you know, it was kind of a shock. Shock to the characters on the show and a shock to us personally as colleagues.”

Fans were angry because they didn’t see Linda’s death on screen. However, there was more to it than that. Danny found out she was actually murdered by the cartel. He then managed to put two of the men who were involved behind bars.

Carlson hasn’t made an appearance since then. She has appeared on other shows including The Village and The Society.

Donnie Wahlberg thinks ‘Blue Bloods’ fans needed time after that

It’s been a couple seasons since Linda died. Wahlberg explained why it’s smart that Danny wasn’t immediately trying to date after that.

“But I think what’s good is that the audience needed to evolve after Linda,” Wahlberg told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “The same as Danny did. I think I needed to mourn or Danny needed to mourn the loss of Linda.”

He continued, “If anything came along too quickly I think it could have been very disappointing for the audience and I don’t think it would have been authentic to who Danny is and what him and Linda’s relationship was.”

The actor shared his perspective of what the fans want for the detective. “I think they want to see him happy,” he said. “But most importantly, they love him and Linda together and whatever comes along for him next needs to be something that honors their history and their relationship and the audience’s love of Amy Carlson’s character.”

The actor gave an update on their friendship with Country Living. They may not work with each other anymore, but they still talk.

“I reach out to her and we stay in touch,” he said. “Trust me, Danny Reagan is still upset and Donnie Wahlberg misses her tremendously.”

He revealed what he misses most about working with Carlson. “Obviously I was going to miss her as a friend and a co-star on the show, but I also missed the little things that she did. She would help the kids in the scene like their mom,” he said.

A lot has change on Blue Bloods. The good news for fans is that Wahlberg and Carlson still talk to each other.
