The seating at the Reagan family dinner is going to change on Blue Bloods. That’s because Nicky (Sami Gayle) announced she got a new job that is across the country.

Find out what the family members had to say about it and how fans are reacting to the big change.

Nicky previously talked about possibly moving for a new job

Nicky is done with school and that means she has to join the work force. In a previous Blue Bloods episode, she talked about being excited for a job interview with a start-up company that helps identify people for localized socially responsible investments like minority start-ups and green initiatives in economically challenged urban areas .

Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) had something to say about her being so far away from the family. “Don’t stay away too long,” he told her. Frank (Tom Selleck) also said, “Danny’s right. Keep this close to you.”

Of course, the grandfather had more to say for if she ever gets stuck. “You take that out and you think hard about what the advice would be,” he said. “Where the sympathies would lie if you were talking it out with us at this table.”

In the episode, “The Price You Pay” the family talk about Nicky’s plans to move to San Francisco. She said that she’s leaving the day after tomorrow.

“I’ll be living in one of the economically challenged neighborhoods I’m helping so rent will be manageable,” said Nicky. However, her company will be placing her somewhere until she finds a place to live.

Eddie (Vanessa Ray) asked her if she has any friends in the city. “I have a couple from school, but it’ll be an adjustment,” answered Nicky. The family noted all of the other changes she’ll make like not having a bagel shop, early closing hours for bars, and more.

She still seems set on leaving. “I get it, guys. It’s not New York,” she said. When Sean (Andrew Terraciano) asked what she’ll do if she doesn’t like it, Erin (Bridget Moynahan) answered that she will move back in with her.

However, Nicky doesn’t seem excited about that plan and is looking forward to moving. She did mention that she might plan a Sunday potluck after she moves because she will miss family dinners.

The Reagans aren’t the only ones who have to adjust to not having Nicky around. Fans also reacted to it on social media.

“I loved it. So sad Nicky is going to California,” one fan tweeted after the episode. Another fan tweeted, “Very sad @SamiGayle is leaving but thankful you’re easing us into it and giving us time to adjust to the idea. Hope she’ll come home for dinner once in awhile.”

Nicky wouldn’t be the first Reagan to leave weekly family dinners. Jack (Tony Terraciano) left for college last season. Chances are she won’t be the last given Jack’s younger brother will probably leave for school too.

Fans will have to keep watching to see if Nicky will stay in San Francisco and how things will change with dinner because of this.
