Bobby Brown says people tried keeping him away from Bobbi Kristina Brown after Whitney Houston’s death

Immediately after Houston’s death in 2012, Brown and his wife Alicia Etheredge-Brown made it their mission to get to Bobbi Kristina to console her and ensure her emotional health was on the right track. Unfortunately, the couple would learn that getting in contact with Bobbi Kristina would be difficult. Brown says it was due to outside influences trying to keep him away from his daughter.

“[It took] about three years [before I was able to see her in person],” he told People Magazine. Etheredge-Brown added: “From the moment of flying home, getting in the car and going toward where we were told she was and him telling her, ‘I’m coming to you,’ and then reaching her was a very, very long time.”

Brown continued, hinting that Houston’s family, who have long been rumored to not like Brown, were involved in keeping them apart. “And then her not being there where she said she was and they would move her,” he said, with his wife adding, “But there were many reasons and many people orchestrating that.”

The father and daughter pair finally reunited in person after speaking on the phone and on FaceTime for several years. She even planned to live with Brown before tragedy struck.

Bobbi Kristina Brown died in an eerily similar fashion to her mother

Brown’s excitement for his daughter to live with him and his family soon turned into pain. In Jan. 2015, Bobbi Kristina was found submerged in the bathtub of her Georgia townhome. She was put into a medically induced coma, where she remained for six months until her death.

It was later discovered that Bobbi Kristina died of a toxic cocktail of drugs and alcohol and had evidence of physical abuse throughout her body. Her boyfriend, Nick Gordon, was found legally responsible for her death. He died of an overdose in 2020.

Bobby Brown admits he feels guilty about the deaths of his children

Five years after Bobbi Kristina’s death, Brown’s son Bobbby Brown Jr. died in 2020 of an accidental overdose. Burying two children is something Brown says he doesn’t wish on his worst enemy.

Due to the manner of death of his son, and the abuse he says Bobbi Kristina endured in her romantic relationship, Brown revealed on Red Table Talk that he felt guilty for their deaths, noting that his children saw his struggles with toxic relationships and substance abuse.

“I’ve been through my time and my time played a part in my son feeling like he could test something,” he said. “I feel guilty about that.”

Regarding Bobbi Kristina, he said: “She saw firsthand things that were wrong and Bobbi Kristina was a super-intelligent, bright, not wanting to be like her mom or myself. She, unfortunately, was stuck in a relationship – an abusive relationship – with a man – with a boy I should say – that basically controlled her to the point that her life was taken.”
