As quarantine lingers on, millions are adjusting to new forms of entertainment. Streaming services are stepping in to release movies that were halted from theater release due to coronavirus and new streaming services are shelving out content at unprecedented rates.

After DJ D-Nice’s virtual club session, music lovers are creating their own playlists to get them through the next few weeks of shutdown. Brandy fans have taken to social media explaining how her hit single, “Sittin Up In My Room,” relates to the current pandemic.

Brandy’s hit “Sittin’ Up In My Room’ was released in 1995

“Sittin’ Up In My Room” was released as part of Waiting To Exhale’s soundtrack. The song was written and produced by Babyface and was one of five singles the soundtrack. It reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Brandy’s most successful single on the chart at the time.

Brandy performed “Sittin’ Up In My Room” on both the Soul Train Music Awards and during the 39th Annual Grammy Awards. The Grammy performance was part of a live medley of songs from Waiting To Exhale featuring Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Cece Winans, and others.

The video was directed by Hype Williams, where actor Donald Faison starred as brandy’s love interest. The song won the award for Best Song from a Movie – and was nominated for Best Video from a Film at the 1996 MTV Awards.

“Sittin’ Up In My Room” is one of Brandy’s most beloved and requested songs from her fans. She performs it in nearly every live concert and it’s constantly in rotation on throwback radio. While fans around the world are quarantined due to coronavirus, the song has taken on a whole new meaning. Fans, as well as the singer, are referencing the song as they are stuck at home and sharing the revelation on social media.

Brandy took to Instagram with a clip from the music video and encouraged everyone to stay safe at home. 

“Sittin’ Up In My Room” (1995) and now in 2020 (literally),” she joked. “Hope everyone is staying safe and prayed up. God Bless the world.”

One twitter user shared her quarantine playlist with songs inspired by staying inside and healthy. “Sittin’ Up In My Room” was included on the list.
