Bravo producer Andy Cohen recovered from coronavirus (Covid-19) before Christmas just in time to help Anderson Cooper usher in New Year’s Eve in Time’s Square.

Cohen dealt with Covid for the second time, leaving quarantine only days before Christmas. He looks forward to his annual televised party with Cooper to ring in 2022. He described his second bout with Covid and what’s to come for his Time Square festivities.

Andy Cohen said being separated from son Ben was ‘really upsetting’

Cohen first contracted the virus in March 2020, recovered, and then got vaccinated. He got the booster shot, which is when he felt that the vaccine side effects were unusually strong. “I had gotten a booster that Thursday, and so then I thought I was sick from the booster — that I was having a reaction to the booster,” he said on the SiriusXM radio show (via People). “And then two days later I was like, ‘Wait a minute, this is quite a big reaction.’ And I got pretty sick. But I’m all better now.”

“I quarantined in the house,” he recalled, adding that his son was pretty upset to be separated from his father. “The first day was really rough and he was really upset and he wanted to hug me so badly. Thankfully, what wound up happening was we tried cohabitating and he was not getting the message that he could not come near me and it was serious. It was really upsetting. And he wound up going out to Long Island with his nanny.”

“We quite literally separated,” he added. “It was not pretty. It was not pretty.”

“I woke up this morning to a negative PCR test,” Cohen shared. “So I did my 10 days, this is day 10, and I get to be reunited with Ben. I’m negative, I feel so much better, and here we are.”

New Year’s Eve 2022 will be Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper’s 5th year on the air

He can now prepare for his annual New Year’s Eve show, which is becoming a tradition as he marks his fifth year on the air with Cooper. The festivities kick off on Friday, December 31 at 8 pm ET on CNN and includes a star-studded lineup.

“Global Pop Superstar Katy Perry will headline the program from her new Las Vegas Residency titled PLAY at Resorts World in Las Vegas,” according to a release. “Along with many other special guest stars throughout the night, including William Shatner, Patti LaBelle, Earth, Wind & Fire, Duran Duran, Amanda Gorman, Patti LuPone, David Arquette, Leslie Jordan, Cheri Oteri and many more.”

Cohen and Cooper shared a cute claymation-type promotion on Instagram. “New Year’s Eve 2022!!! hope you join us!” Cooper shared along with the spot. In the video, Cohen brings Cooper a snow globe and when he shakes it, they are transformed into a claymation wonderland. Claymation Cohen seems delighted with the idea. Cooper – not so much. “Anderson the snowflakes are tequila!” Cohen exclaims. “I may never leave.”

Fans prepare for more tequila shots with Andy and Anderson

Speaking of tequila, Cohen hilariously got Cooper to take tequila shots with him during the live New Year’s Eve broadcast last year and Cooper got a little drunk. Cohen brought two bottles of tequila to say goodbye to 2020 and insisted that Cooper do shots with him.

“It burns, it burns!” Cooper said hacking away after his first shot, USA Today reports. By the time comedian Stephen Colbert joined the duo, Cooper admitted he was a little tipsy. “To be honest Stephen, I thought I was going to introduce you and I wasn’t,” Cooper said. “I’ve had like four shots already, Stephen, and I don’t drink. So, at this point, I’m just reading the teleprompter.”

Of course, Cohen loved every minute. “We’ll be right back! Anderson’s drunk!”
