‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 will focus on Anthony’s love life

Based on the novel series by Julia Quinn, each book centers around the life and romance of the Bridgerton children. For instance, the first season followed the eldest daughter’s romance story, Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor). Now, the second season shifts to the eldest son, Anthony Bridgerton. After a devastating heartbreak, Anthony wants to find a wife. Bridgerton Season 2 is based on the second book in the series, titled The Viscount Who Loved M.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, creator and showrunner Chris Van Dusen talked about the pressure of following up on the first season’s success, being that it was such a Netflix hit.

“It is a little different going [into it than] that first season now that it’s kind of a worldwide phenomenon,” he said. “There are a lot more eyes and a lot more scrutiny, but I’ve always said this show comes with a healthy kind of pressure. Being inspired by these eight delicious romance novels, which already have a passionate fan following, the pressure is really baked in.”

On Sept. 27, Netflix released the first look images from Bridgerton Season 2. The photos introduce the Sharma Family, consisting of Kate, her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran), and their mother, Mary (Shelley Conn). As they arrive at the ball, they are accompanied by Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh).

Some members of the Bridgerton family are present, including Anthony, Lady Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell), Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), and the new debutant, Eloise (Claudia Jessie).

Additionally, the next photo features Anthony and Kate smiling at each other. He’s engaged to Kate’s sister, Edwina Sharma. But, sparks fly between him and Kate, causing a forbidden romance to brew.

In an interview with E! News, actor Jonathan Bailey shared that he has a deep fondness for his character. “With Anthony, there’s just so much conflict with everything he’s doing,” he said.

“He means so well, and he’s got such a good heart, and he loves his family,” Bailey added. “Once I fell in love with him and realized that he meant well, that means that you can really push the boundaries as to how unfair and toxic he can be to his lovers and to his sisters and to his mother.”

Who is returning for ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2?

Most of the cast will return for Bridgerton Season 2, except Regé-Jean Page. The actor portrayed the charming Simon Basset, also referred to as Duke of Hastings. But, fans were devastated to hear that he wouldn’t return for the second season.

In an interview with Variety, Page revealed that his character was intended to appear in one season. “It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end. [I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit, and then the Bridgerton family rolls on,” he explained.

Right now, there is no official release date for Bridgerton Season 2. But, fans should expect the period drama to return to Netflix in 2022.
