Regé-Jean Page was one of the first people cast in ‘Bridgerton’

Page was a shoo-in for the role. He had been on another Shondaland production, For the People, prior so Shonda Rhimes had her eye on him from the beginning.

“Shonda always always wanted Regé,” director Julie Ann Robinson told Deadline. “The person I am proudest of casting is Phoebe because we did see A LOT of people for that role. I saw her on tape. and I was just taken by her because she is so captivating.”

When Page and Dynevor sat down together to read for the roles, the chemistry between them cinched the deal for Dynevor.

“We managed to have this magical audition process with Shonda there where we put them together and I was able to direct them,” Robinson said.”Regé was already pre-decided but Phoebe came in and read. She was fantastic and got the role.”

Throughout filming, Robinson saw Page grow into the heartthrob that audiences fell in love with.

“It’s interesting about Regé, I hope he is not offended by this but I never saw him as a sex symbol,” she said. “I always saw him as a serious actor, very committed, a caring professional. And now look at him, I mean goodness me. It’s incredible, I hope he is the next James Bond.”

Regé and Phoebe worked well together

Dynevor immediately connected with Page when they were both cast and she believed in Page’s acting abilities from the very beginning.

“That he was the perfect Simon,” Dynevor told Glamour of what she first thought of Page. “He’s very polite and gentlemanly and all the things that Simon is…well, Simon’s a lot more than gentlemanly and polite. But Regé definitely had that composure of a Regency man. I saw it straight away.”

And the two got along almost instantly.

“I think we worked really well together, and I learned a lot from him,” Dynevor said. “We have different acting styles, so we bounced off each other in that respect. We both were on the same page about the characters and what their relationship was. I loved working with him.”

What does Regé-Jean Page smell like?

Since Bridgerton premiered, Dynevor has been asked a lot of questions about Page, their relationship, and what her co-star is like in real life. But surprisingly, one of the most common questions has been about Page’s scent.

“Oh, my God. Why have so many people asked me that?” Dynevor told the outlet when asked how Page smells. “He smells really, really nice. He never, ever had bad breath, and he doesn’t smoke or anything like that. We both drink a lot of coffee, so sometimes we both smell like that, which was fine. He’s unscented in a good way.”
