What do fans know about the ‘Bridgerton’ prequel?

Since the first season of Bridgerton, fans have only gotten snippets of Queen Charlotte’s past. Fans are aware the king is ill and often kept away from the public. They also had a daughter together that died at a young age. Bridgerton Season 2 helped develop what fans can expect in the prequel.

When the king makes a surprise appearance after the disaster of Edwina’s marriage, fans learn their road to marriage was not easy.

According to Variety, the prequel “tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.”

The prequel promises a drama-filled story as a young Queen Charlotte is “betrothed to the mysterious King of England against her will.” The character description says that Charlotte was not what the royal family expected. While Rosheuvel returns to her role as the queen in the prequel, she is joined by actor India Amarteifio.

She is more widely known for her role as Sophie in the fourth season of the crime series Line of Duty. Amarteifio’s character is the daughter of DCI Roz Huntley (Thandie Newton). In 2015, she played the role of Lacie Fairburn in Evermoor and Maya Roebuck in The Tunnel. In Sex Education, Amarteifio played the guest role of Lizzie.

Shondaland welcomes Amarteifio with open arms as the actor confirmed her role as a young Queen Charlotte on her Instagram. In a black and white photo, she posed with Rosheuvel with the caption, “Ur, yeah? Yeah. No words really. Thank you to my secret keepers for keeping it a secret. Absolute honour :)”

The prequel will also include a young Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton
