Britney Spears’ Audition Tape for ‘The Notebook’ Is Selling for $1 Million

It's no secret that the role of Allie Hamilton in 'The Notebook' was highly-coveted. Britney Spears, Jessica Biel, and Reese Witherspoon were amongst those who auditioned for the role. Now, fans of Spears can get their hands on her audition tape for a cool million.

It’s nearly impossible to picture the cast of The Notebook without Rachel McAdams coming to mind. McAdams stole hearts as Allie Hamilton, a wealthy girl with a heart of gold, and was truly perfect for the role. But the talented actor was hardly the only one who auditioned for Allie. In fact, the role was extremely coveted and McAdams beat out huge names like Britney Spears in order to snag the part.

Though it was hard to find a ton of actors who were interested in portraying Noah Calhoun in The Notebook, plenty of people were vying for the role of Allie. Spears was being considered for the role alongside other actors like Jessica Biel and Reese Witherspoon. Of course, fans who’ve watched McAdams’ audition tape can easily see why she won out on the part. To date, the auditions from the other actors have been mostly unavailable. However, that recently changed thanks to an eBay auction.

Britney Spears’ audition tape for ‘The Notebook’ is currently on sale

“RARE: Britney Spears Audition For “The Notebook” – One of a kind- original,” reads the title of the tape being sold on eBay. The tape alleges to be in brand new condition. However, it’ll be all but impossible for everyday fans of Spears to get their hands on the audition. According to the eBay ad, the asking price for the tape starts at a cool $1 million.

The Notebook made Rachel McAdams a star,” the description for the tape reads. “Little does anyone know, Britney Spears also auditioned for the role! It’s never before seen, until now. It was recorded by me in my office on April 18th, 2002 on a Sony Hi8mm camera. Her audition (with Ryan Gosling reading) runs one second short of 10 minutes. Own a piece of HISTORY! PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY! NOT TO BE SOLD OR DISTRIBUTED For those who have asked: There will be a future IN-PERSON showing (for serious bidders only).”

Why Rachel McAdams ultimately earned the coveted role in ‘The Notebook’ cast

Though we don’t know much about Spears’ audition, we do know that McAdams approached her audition differently than anyone else who auditioned. According to Ryan Gosling, McAdams didn’t waste time talking and instead just dove into her idea of the character. That, coupled with the level of emotion that she brought to her audition, made her stand out from the pack.

“Every girl wanted to talk about the scene and the character and all these things and we talked about it like just endlessly,” Gosling shared with Fandango. “But Rachel came in and we said ‘You want to talk about it?’ she’s like ‘No.’ we’re like ‘Nothing? You don’t want to…’ she’s ‘No no no just let’s do it.’” Clearly, McAdams was the right person for the job. That said we’d love to see Spears’ version of the character also. But, for $1,000,000, we’ll be using our imagination.
