Britney Spears Got Hit In the Head While Filming Her ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’ Music Video

Britney Spears has delivered plenty of iconic moments and music videos throughout her lengthy career. At the turn of the century, she was one of the music industry’s hottest new stars, complete with hit songs to her name.

‘Oops!… I Did It Again’ was a monumental Britney Spears song

Britney Spears first rose to prominence alongside future stars such as Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, and Ryan Gosling on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club. She continued to work hard in the entertainment industry throughout the 1990s.

In 1999, Spears burst onto the music scene with her debut single “…Baby One More Time.” She recreated her success the following year with “Oops!… I Did It Again,” the lead single off her sophomore album of the same name.

“…Baby One More Time” introduced the world to Britney Spears, but “Oops!… I Did It Again” showed that she was much more than just a fluke. She was a new pop princess ready to take over the world.

When it came time to make the music video for “Oops!… I Did It Again,” Spears and her team knew it had to be something unforgettable that would stand the test of time.

In the music video for “Oops!… I Did It Again,” Spears played a space-traveling girl who falls in love with an astronaut. She wears different looks throughout the video, but her most memorable and the one most associated with the video is her iconic red latex catsuit.

In 2020, Vogue interviewed Estee Stanley, the stylist for the video. He revealed various secrets about the shoot, including how the red bodysuit came to be.

Stanley also admitted that Spears suffered an injury on set while filming. During a scene where Spears was lying down and the camera was pointed at her from above, a piece of the camera became dislodged and hit her on the back of the head. “But she was a trooper and went right back to work,” Stanley recalled.

Britney Spears’ red latex catsuit was difficult to film in

Spears’ head injury wasn’t the only physical difficulty she endured while filming the “Oops!… I Did It Again” video. Latex is notorious for not being a breathable fabric, and Stanley was wary about putting Spears in a fitted latex outfit to dance for hours on end.

“If you put a latex outfit on, you’re immediately sweating, and I knew she was going to be dancing all day,” Stanley said. “I was nervous that she would pass out.”

While Spears toughed it out and didn’t pass out, she worked up a monumental sweat while filming the video. “After one take, I unzipped her, and it literally looked like a bucket of water poured out of this jumpsuit,” he remembered. “She had a very intense day, to say the least.”
