Brittney Spencer moved to Nashville for her career, just like Reba McEntire

Born on Sept. 8, 1988 — and therefore sharing a birthday with country music legend Patsy Cline — Spencer is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. But she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2013.

Like many others before her, including McEntire, Dolly Parton, and Loretta Lynn, she uprooted her life and set up shop in Music City with hopes of becoming a country star.

In Spencer’s case, the hard work and sacrifice paid off. She released her debut EP in 2020 and debuted on the Grand Ole Opry on May 14, 2021. Her single “Sober & Skinny” has earned praise from outlets like The New York Times and Rolling Stone.

Spencer told Glamour the experience has been humbling. “I released music for the very first time on my own in the summer of 2020, and it was pretty well received,” she explained. “I’m just taking it all in, trying to show up and meet every moment with all that I’ve got — and just believe that that’s enough.”

In early 2022, Spencer won a coveted spot on tour with the “Fancy” singer, whom she counts as one of her “heroes and greatest inspirations.”

Brittney Spencer stans queen Reba McEntire

Spencer and McEntire both know what it takes to make it in country music. And sometimes artists need to stick together and help each other up along the way.

McEntire has been vocal about her disappointment in the lack of female representation in the genre. So, she took a crop of up-and-coming female stars with her on tour in 2022 to give them a spotlight.

While on the road with the “I’m a Survivor” singer and sitcom star, Spencer documented some of the unbelievable experience for fans. Y’all, it actually happened. I spent three nights on the road with Reba — one of my heroes and greatest inspirations,” she told People.

She added, “… She’s just as wonderful as I imagined she would be. Like, wow… I stan, queen.”
