Empire alum Bryshere “Yazz” Gray seemed to be living his best life. He rose to fame on the acclaimed musical drama as Hakeem Lyon and garnered starring roles and hit songs quickly. Following Emprie‘s series finale, the actor appeared to be laying low. However, he just emerged as a perpetrator of a domestic assault against his wife. Here’s everything we know about Gray’s wife and his alleged baby daughter.
Bryshere Gray was just arrested for allegedly abusing his wife
The 26-year-old actor just stunned everyone with news of his recent arrest. Deadline is reporting that a frantic young woman ran to a gas station and flagged down a stranger to call the police.
The woman told the stranger that she had been held captive by her husband, Bryshere Gray, in their Arizona home where he assaulted her for hours, choking her until she was unconscious. When police arrived a the home, Gray refused to come out.
A SWAT team and crisis negotiation team were called in, with Gray eventually surrendering the next morning. The actor has been booked into the Maricopa County Jail on domestic violence charges.
There have been hints that Bryshere Gray has been having personal issues for some time
When Empire first premiered in 2015, then 21-year-old Gray skyrocketed to fame as the insolent youngest Lyon son, Hakeem. A fan favorite on the series, the actor went on to find acclaim in the BET mini-series, The New Edition Story as Michael Bivens. Also, the Little Rock native snagged a starring role in the 2019 film, Canal Street.
However, amid the final season of Empire, and Jussie Smullot’s exit due to his alleged hoax attack, fans were stunned to see less and less of Gray as well.
After being shot, and watching his love, Tiana, suffer a miscarriage in Season 5 of the series, Gray’s character all but vanished from the final season of the show. Season 6 of Empire revolved almost solely around Cookie and Lucious, and fans were confused. One viewer pointed out “we’ve only seen Hakeem one time.” Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Empire ended early, and Gray’s role was greatly reduced. Not it appears that he was dealing with some major issues.
Here’s what we know about Bryshere Gray’s wife
Not much is known about Gray’s wife, but this is not the first time we’ve been made aware of her presence. Last month, a fan who was in an alleged entanglement with Gray shared her conversations with Gray’s wife with the popular gossip site, The Shade Room.
Gray allegedly reached out to the fan via DM and wanted to meet up with her that night. After a Facetime call to confirm the actor’s identity, the young woman met up with the actor who shared that he was single but he’d recently become a father to a baby girl.
The pair continued to meet up until Gray never showed up at a time when they were supposed to meet. The woman then got a Snapchat from a woman claiming to be the rapper’s wife. After doing some digging the young woman discovered that Gray’s mom was also following the wife on Instagram. She also found pictures of the rapper with a wedding ring on. The wife’s identity has not yet been revealed.
