The seven-member South Korean boy group BTS is well-known not only for its music but also for the fierce loyalty of its fanbase. You may not consider yourself part of the non-profit organization known as the ARMY (Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth).

Still, you may have found yourself on their dedicated website for the latest news, videos, and appearances. The Reddit Bangtan Awards for 2019, is one of the band’s official nods to its loyal fans and features fun categories, voted on by the ARMY, to highlight everyone’s top picks.

Diving into the heart of the popular BTS culture, we found which solo track the ARMY considers the all-time best of 2019.

Meet the ‘Bangtan Boys’ aka ‘Beyond the Scene’

The popular k-pop group hit the scene in 2012, with songs and soulful dance moves that brought teen problems and social justice topics to the forefront. The beloved members — Jin, J-Hope, RM, V, Jungkook, Suga, and Jimin — have a following that goes beyond the typical heartthrob sensation.

Their native name, Bangtan Sonveondan, translates to mean Bulletproof Boy Scouts, a name that harkens to their hint of military flavor. They have successfully built a brand that then inspired a fan base and continued by growing an entire BTS-loving culture.

The Reddit community that began in 2014

In addition to the band’s dedicated website, complete with news and proper fan etiquette behavioral tips, BTS also has a subreddit community to stay connected with fans. Images, videos, discussions, and award voting takes place here. Over 97.5k are said to be enlisted there.

This fan-determined award roster features multiple categories, including ‘tweet of the year 2019’ and ‘best variety show or media appearance of 2019.’

Best non-album track of 2019 was one of the popular categories, and one we wanted to see first-hand. This category looked for the fans’ favorite track, outside of official albums in 2019. “SUGA’s Interlude” landed the most votes with 179 (28.6%).

Coming in a close second, and only two votes behind, was J-Hope’s “Chicken Noodle Soup.” V’s “Winter Bear” came in third, albeit much further behind with only 146 votes.

There’s also the category of Best Lyric of the Year. This category encourages the fans to narrow down not only their favorite tracks but to then isolate their favorite, single lines from a BTS song released in 2019.

“SUGA’s Interlude” comes out ahead in this vote, as well. For the lyric, “Though the dawn before sunrise is darkest, don’t ever forget that stars you long for only shine in the dark,” an overwhelming 192 votes came in to secure the lyric as the top-ranked.

Not all BTS fans are in the ARMY

While BTS continues to impact the industry and entertain the masses, not all fans are ARMY-level fans. In fact, there are plenty of threads we found, with varying opinions of the ARMY members in general.

One commenter talks about actually liking BTS in general but being appalled at some of the ARMY members’ behavior, with regard to award voting, social media commenting, etc. Considering how extensive the ARMY fanbase really is, and then adding to that group, an additional following of non-ARMY fans, tells us one thing – BTS is still really popular.

If you haven’t heard their music, it’s definitely worth a listen. There’s plenty of talent among the magnificent seven. There’s enough to inspire an ARMY of devoted fans, who are ready every year, to vote on their most-loved BTS moment, track, and lyric.
