We’re about a week out from the BTS comeback for Map of the Soul: 7. And the seven members — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — have supplied ARMY with enough content to get through Feb. 21 in one piece.

From the “Black Swan” performance to the insightful media circuit rounds, everyone knows the next era will be nothing short of phenomenal — including the band. And now, a few of the members are representing the album in their fashion choices. When new concept photos were released, Jimin and RM showcased their blue and purple hair. A few days later, Jungkook debuted blue hair highlights in a sneak peek at BTS’ Tonight Show special appearance.

On Feb. 13, NBC announced BTS’ appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In a press release, the network revealed details about the episode, which will include an extended interview, special performance, and tour of New York City. According to the release, Fallon said:

We wanted to do something special for BTS and, at the same time, celebrate New York City. BTS really knocked it out of the park. You’re not going to believe how big and fun their performance is. They took over Grand Central Terminal. It’s BTS on NBC from NYC at GCT…wait, this is getting weird, isn’t it? Just watch the show on Monday, Feb. 24.

NBC also unveiled a teaser photo from the Tonight Show episode, featuring the septet, Fallon, and an employee from the iconic Katz’s Delicatessen. And ARMY was quick to notice Jimin and RM’s colored hair, slightly faded from when the concept photos were taken. The picture also stopped a few BTS fans in their tracks once they saw Jungkook’s blue hair highlights.

BTS fans react to Jungkook’s blue hair highlights

For the past few months, Jungkook has consistently surprised BTS fans with his stunning new hair looks. Following his long hair phase, the “Euphoria” singer traded in for the signature “coconut” cut, noting the lengthy locks were too “damaged and hard to control.”

As time went on, Jungkook’s hair grew out a bit. Then in late November, the singer-dancer debuted blond highlights at the Chiba, Japan, fan meeting. Eventually, Jungkook transitioned from blond to red hair highlights at the 2019 Melon Music Awards, where BTS teased pops of the color in their red carpet looks. Now, Jungkook has subtle blue highlights, and ARMYs are in love.

“Are those blue highlights in Jungkook’s hair or am i tripping?” a fan wrote on Twitter.

Jungkook + blue highlights,” another fan tweeted. “There really isn’t a color in existence that doesn’t look good on him huh.”

Meanwhile, some fans pointed out the photo from The Tonight Show may not be the first time we’ve seen Jungkook with blue hair in this era. Upon further inspection, the “Begin” singer seems to have blue highlights in some of the concept photos released earlier this week.

On Feb. 11, one fan on Twitter commented on Jungkook’s hair when praising the third round of concept photos. “At this point, Jungkook has no mercy on our poor souls. His gorgeousness, his sexiness, his forehead, the midnight blue streaks in his hair,” the fan wrote.

Then when NBC released the photo from The Tonight Show, Jungkook’s blue highlights became glaringly obvious in the previous pictures. “Blue highlights Jungkook?? I’ve been so f*cking blind omg I thought it was the light I am so dumb,” an ARMY wrote on Twitter. And honestly, same.

Regardless, there’s no denying the impact Jungkook has on fans. And of course, the response extends to all the members of BTS as well.

“They will do something big and new but i’m already in love with their HAIR!!” a fan wrote. “Grape Joon is back, blue and blue locks for Jimin and Jungkook, grey locks for Hobi and Yoongi and finally Tae and Jin with black long hair!!”

As BTS gears up for the Map of the Soul: 7 release date on Feb. 21, fans are preparing to show up with their support. And if the reaction to Jungkook’s hair is even a fraction of what happens when we step into the new era, we might as well prepare for a BTS and ARMY takeover right now. So get ready.
