Why is Jungkook called the ‘Golden Maknae’?

“Maknae” is a Korean word that refers to the youngest person in any given group, whether that is a group of friends, a family, or a band. Since Jungkook is the youngest member of BTS, he is clearly the “maknae” of the group.

Jungkook is an all-around skilled performer, which makes him the “Golden Maknae” of BTS. He is among the top singers and dancers of the group, and he even has rapping abilities as well.

However, he is not just talented on stage. Jungkook is known for being good at so many things, including sports, art, games, and filmmaking. Additionally, Jungkook is also great at marketing; there have been countless examples of products selling out simply because they were associated with him. In fact, sometimes, it might be easier to just list things he is not good at.

Jungkook said he has to work hard at being the ‘Golden Maknae’

However, while many people get the impression that Jungkook is naturally gifted at many things, he himself admitted that this is not always the case. As such, he has to work hard at being the “Golden Maknae.”

“I envy the image people have of me,” he said on the fifth episode of BTS’s docu-series Break the Silence, according to PinkVilla. “People call me the Golden Maknae, but that’s not how I feel, so I have to try harder to make myself appear that way. After all that time since my debut, I think finally I’m trying really hard.”

It is also not easy for Jungkook to have everyone constantly watching him and judging everything he does. In an interview with Paper Magazine, he admitted to feeling “pressure” by fame.

“I realized that I should think twice before I do anything, and not forget where I am, no matter what situation I may be in,” he said. “The pressure [of being perfect] is always there.”

Fans love to give endearing nicknames to their favorite celebrities, and Jungkook has been given quite a few.

Some nicknames are variations of his real name, such as JK, Jungkookie, or just Kookie.

A less obvious name that has been associated with Jungkook is Seagull. Before BTS debuted, he actually almost took on Seagull as his stage name because of his hometown, Busan, which is famous for its beaches. The city’s official mascot is the seagull, and its baseball team, the Lotte Giants, are often called the Busan Seagulls.

While Jungkook ultimately decided to use his real name as his stage name, fans still occasionally call him Jeon Seagull or Justin Seagull for fun.
