BTS started out as an underdog in the K-pop industry, but the group is now one of the biggest artists in the world. It’s easy for someone in BTS’s position to become arrogant. However, the group continues to stay humble and appreciative of their accomplishments. BTS recently revealed how they see success and what that does to their mindset.

BTS has a lot to be proud of

When BTS debuted in South Korea in 2013, the group had to compete with many giants in the K-pop industry. Through hard work and creativity, BTS managed to set themselves apart and capture fans all over the world.

By 2015, BTS had become a huge name in South Korea as well as several other Asian countries. Then, in 2017, the group began getting a lot of recognition in the United States and the Western world.

Since then, BTS has consistently charted at number one in countless places. The group also does not seem to stop racking up international awards, including several big ones in the U.S. BTS’s success has even been compared to that of The Beatles.

What BTS does to help them be humble about their success

Fans and people who have met BTS often say that the members are still very similar to how they were before international stardom.

According to Koreaboo, during a recent press conference to promote their “Permission to Dance On Stage” concert tour in Los Angeles, journalist Liam McEwan asked the group, “How do you manage to stay true to yourselves amongst all the success?”

J-Hope explained that the members try to not worry too much about various measures of success.

“We try not to set standards to define success,” he said. “If we set those standards, it is very tiring mentally and physically. Instead, we try hard at what we do and stay true to that, and that effort leads to a lot of success. By doing that we try to stay level and true to ourselves.”

Meanwhile, RM shared that he tries to remember he is only a small part of BTS’s achievements.

“There’s 100% of success,” RM said. “I’ll give 50% to ARMY. We put 5% each, that’s 35%. I’ll give 15% to HYBE/Big Hit. If it’s a trophy, my percentage is like 5%. If you always realize to yourself that you’re just a piece of this whole journey.”

He also added, “This success is not all yours. I always try to realize that for myself. It really helps me keep myself down to earth, and I think it’s really important to survive in this crazy industry.”

As RM mentioned, BTS’s ARMY fandom has played a huge role in propelling the group toward success. BTS often shows a lot of gratitude toward their supporters.

For example, during an interview with India’s NDTV in 2020, Jungkook said, “[Our achievements] are all amazing things that we still can’t make sense of. There could be various factors that contributed to us coming this far, may it be our effort or timing, but we truly believe that the love and support from ARMY made all of this possible. That’s the most important thing that keeps us grounded.”
