Like many people around the world, some BTS members used to believe in Santa Claus growing up. However, they also have stories of when they stopped believing in this Christmas character. For Suga and Jungkook, the magic of Santa Claus was ruined after they experienced similar events.

BTS often celebrates Christmas with fans

Ever since BTS debuted in 2013, the group has done many things to give fans nice memories of the holiday season.

For example, during their first Christmas as BTS, the members had a storytime event with fans and even released a Christmas music video with other artists under HYBE Entertainment.

In 2017, when BTS began getting international attention, the group joined Radio Disney for a game of “Holiday Hot or Not,” where they shared opinions on holiday-related activities like decorating for Christmas in November and giving money as gifts.

In 2020, BTS participated in The Disney Holiday Singalong by performing the song “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.” Two members also released their own holiday tracks. Jimin released “Christmas Love,” while V released “Snow Flower.”

This year, BTS celebrated the holiday season with a special remix of their hit single “Butter.”

BTS’s Suga and Jungkook stopped believing in Santa Claus because of similar reasons

The members of BTS have also shared some stories of the holiday season in their childhoods. For Suga and Jungkook, their childhoods included Santa Claus, but they stopped believing in him for similar reasons.

Back in June 2019, Suga shared during BTS’s debut anniversary celebration, BTS Festa, that he stopped believing in Santa Claus in 4th grade. At the time, he remembered asking for a present of a Pokemon character. However, what happened was that he caught his dad leaving a present at his bedside.

“I sensed something move, and it was my dad leaving the present at my bedside,” Suga said. “When I opened my eyes, our eyes met… That’s when I knew there was no Santa Claus.”

Jungkook recently shared a similar story during a Bangtan Bomb video. He said, “My dad wore the Santa costume with the beard. I was trying to fall asleep, and I remember feeling the beard. I opened my eyes and there was my dad. From then on, I didn’t believe in Santa.”

Unlike Suga and Jungkook, Jin never believed in Santa Claus in the first place. In the 2019 BTS Festa video, Jin said that his dad always let him know where his presents actually came from.

“My family never believed in Santa Claus,” Jin explained. “Ever since I was little, my dad told me there was no Santa Claus. [He would say,] ‘I’m the one who buys you Christmas presents.’”

Jin joked that this knowledge made him want to treat his father well so he could get Christmas presents. He shared, “When I asked him for something, he would say to be a good boy and massage his shoulders.”
