When BTS first debuted in 2013, the group was just a small K-pop act in a very saturated industry. However, after years of hard work and genius marketing moves, BTS managed to rise to the top. Today, in addition to conquering K-pop, BTS is also making a name for themselves all over the world.

It seems nothing is impossible for BTS anymore. In fact, two years ago, rapper Suga set some goals for the group that sounded very difficult to achieve. Yet, BTS actually just achieved all of these goals!

What goals did Suga set 2 years ago?

In May 2018, BTS held a press conference following the release of their album Love Yourself: Tear. This was also just after BTS won the award for Top Social Media Artist for the second year in a row, so the group was still in the beginning of their worldwide expansion.

During the conference, the members expressed some goals they had set for themselves when it comes to promoting abroad.

“We want to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard 200, and we want to go to the Grammy Awards,” Suga shared, according to Soompi. “We also want to do a stadium tour, and we want to become one of the most influential singers all over the world.”

However, he was a bit hesitant about whether BTS could even accomplish these goals or not, adding, “Because [these dreams] are so hard to achieve, it’s not easy to say them out loud—but now that we’ve said them out loud, we might as well try to reach them.”

BTS just accomplished all of the goals Suga listed

Fortunately for Suga, it didn’t hurt to dream big. Two years later, BTS actually did achieve all of the goals Suga listed.

BTS attended the Grammy Awards in 2019 and 2020. They did not just attend the show, however. BTS even had a performance in 2020 alongside Lil Nas X.

In 2018 and 2019, BTS had their Love Your World Tour and performed at stadiums around the world. In 2020, BTS snagged more stadium dates for their Map of the Soul Tour. That tour has been postponed, but there’s no denying how well-deserved those stadium shows are for the group.

Finally, BTS has been making waves on the Billboard charts. They have actually earned four No. 1 spots on the Billboard 200 so far. And with the release of their new single “Dynamite,” BTS quickly acquired their first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Suga’s final goal is to become “one of the most influential singers all over the world.” Unlike the other goals he listed, this one is a rather subjective statement.

However, there is no doubt BTS has, indeed, become extremely influential over the years. For example, it is well-known that the American music industry often does not embrace artists who sing in languages other than English. Yet, BTS has managed to climb to the top of various Billboard charts and performed their music in numerous award shows.

They have even played a huge role in creating interest in South Korea, the Korean language, and Korean culture all over the world. In fact, research has shown that BTS has added billions of dollars into the Korean economy so far.

BTS’s popularity seems to be increasing still every day, so it is clear they are not at their peak of influence yet. As time goes on, we will truly be able to see just how much BTS has accomplished and what kind of impact they are leaving behind.
