Celebrities are not immune to health issues, and Suga from BTS recently had to undergo a surgery to fix a problem in his shoulder. Suga has been doing a good job recovering, but the surgery has surprisingly changed something about his daily habit. According to Suga, he can’t do this one thing anymore due to nausea.

Suga underwent shoulder surgery in November

On early November 2020, Suga underwent surgery to repair an issue in his shoulder. BTS’s company, Hybe, released a statement on Weverse about this development in Suga’s health.

“Suga underwent surgery to repair his torn shoulder labrum on November 3,” the statement said. “The surgery, to address a problem that had constantly been a health and wellness issue for Suga, was completed successfully, and he is currently resting and recovering following his physician’s advice that SUGA must undergo a strict and unhindered period of recovery.”

Some fans might remember that Suga previously injured his shoulder in 2012 as well as 2019. Member Jimin also noted that this recent surgery would allow Suga to continue working with BTS for much longer.

Suga took a break from working for a few months

After the surgery, Suga took a break from work to focus on his recovery.

During a live stream in December, he shared, “I work out continuously, such as with band exercises. In the hospital where I had surgery, they don’t force me to extend the motion range, so I’m only using my arm to the extent that I can move.”

As he was trying to work on getting normal use of his arm back, he also admitted that he felt “frustrated” when he had to watch his fellow members work without him.

“The thing is, it’s only been a month after I got surgery, but my absence on stage is so apparent,” he told Weverse Magazine in January. “But my doctors keep telling me that I shouldn’t be impatient and in fact, many athletes get a resurgery when they return to the field without proper rehabilitation. So I’m working on trying to care less. For the first two weeks after surgery, I felt so frustrated that I tried out new things. I even watched movies I didn’t watch.”

Suga has resumed activities with BTS, but he shared that there is something he can’t seem to do anymore after the surgery.

During a recent live stream, Suga–who is known to love coffee–revealed that he has to avoid coffee now because it does not make his body feel good. He said, “I tried it, and it made my heart beat too fast, and I felt nauseated. It went on the entire day.”

Because of this new development, Suga only drink decaffeinated coffee now. It does not seem to bother him too much, however, as he noted that “decaffeinated coffee doesn’t taste different” from coffee with caffeine.
