Landau spoke with Showbiz Cheat Sheet by phone about her new movie, A Place Among the Dead, in which she stars and directed. We’ll have more on her new film here on Showbiz Cheat Sheet but here was her response to Abram’s tweet.

What Stacy Abrams tweeted about ‘Buffy, the Vampire Slayer’

This all started when Abrams tweeted a reply to a Buffy fan on Nov. 9. The fan commented on how Abrams ships Spike and Buffy. Abrams clarified her position.

“To be fair, Angel was the right boyfriend for Buffy coming into her power,” Abrams wrote. “Spike was the right man to be with as she became the power.”

Angel (David Boreanaz) was Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar)’s high school boyfriend. When they slept together, Angel’s curse turned him back into the evil Angelus, because he’d experienced a moment of true happiness with Buffy. Spike (James Marsters) was the bad boy vampire who stuck around after Angel moved to L.A. Buffy finally dated Spike in season 6.

‘Buffy, the Vampire Slayer’ actors who have weighed in

Abrams discussing Buffy, the Vampire Slayer has been a cause celebre for the show’s cast. Danny Strong, who played the recurring character Jonathan and went on to become a prolific writer, replied to Abrams, “Yeah, I can see that.”

Alyson Hannigan, who played Buffy’s friend Willow, tweeted “I’ll vote yes to that!” in response to Abrams. However, she later suggested Buffy date Willow.

Boreanaz disagreed with Abrams. While appearing on Variety’s The Big Ticket podcast, Boreanaz took Angel’s side.

“Your first love is your true love and your true love is your first love,” Boreanaz said.

Juliet Landau weighs in

Landau played Spike’s vampire lover Drusilla. She had not seen Abrams’ tweet yet, so Showbiz Cheat Sheet read it to her.

“Oh, interesting,” Landau said. “I like that. That’s pretty awesome. I love it. It’s been really interesting because Buffy has been trending again during the pandemic, so people have been watching. All throughout [since it aired] they have been and they’ve been watching a lot through the pandemic, too.”

Still, Landau offered that Spike had something special going on with Drusilla. Vampires live for centuries and their relationship lasted more than one.

“I have to say that Dru and Spike, I think that they had some real power,” Landau said. “You don’t have a 200 year relationship for nothing.”
