Is Camilla Parker Bowles a Princess?

Upon her royal wedding day to Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles earned some major royal status. Not only is she the Duchess of Cornwall, but she is also the Princess of Wales. In the royal family, women inherit the feminine version of their husbands’ titles and, since Prince Charles is the Princes of Wales and Duke of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles is both a duchess and a princess. That said, Her Royal Highness doesn’t go by Princess of Wales, likely out of respect for Princess Diana.

Camilla Parker Bowles’s royal titles

Duchess of Cornwall and Princess of Wales aren’t the only royal titles Camilla Parker Bowles goes by. In addition to her titles in England (and around the world), she also has a title for certain commonwealth countries such as Scotland and Northern Ireland.

While visiting Scotland, Camilla Parker Bowles goes by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Rothesay. And, in Cheshire, England, she goes by Countess of Chester.

Will Camilla Parker Bowles become queen?

As the wife of the future King of England, many want to know: Will Camilla Parker Bowles become Queen of England? And while she will not become queen in the same sense as Queen Elizabeth II, she could still have “queen” in her future royal title.

In the royal family, a male monarch’s spouse typically goes by queen consort or princess consort. However, there was allegedly some drama regarding which title Camilla Parker Bowles would assume once Prince Charles becomes king. According to Express, Prince Charles’s wife plans to go by princess consort instead of queen consort once her husband ascends the throne.

Will Camilla be Queen Mother?

When a monarch passes before their spouse, the queen or princess consort typically becomes Queen Mother (aka, mother of the new monarch). If Prince Charles dies before Camilla and Prince William becomes king, will Camilla be Queen Mother? Probably not.

While anything is possible — especially in the royal family — Camilla Parker Bowles will most likely never become Queen Mother, as she is Prince William’s stepmother. However, since Kate Middleton will ascend the throne as princess or queen consort, Camilla will earn a new status. Prince William will likely name her queen dowager, which means she is the widow of a king.

Did Camilla Parker Bowles have a royal title before marrying Prince Charles?

With so much history in the royal family, it’s possible to assume that Camilla Parker Bowles had royal status before marrying Prince Charles. However, that’s not the case. Camilla was not born into a noble family like Princess Diana was, therefore she did not go by “lady” or any other style until she married into the royal family.
