On Monday, June 13, Capcom held its Capcom Showcase 2022 as part of this year’s Summer Game Fest. The half-hour presentation offered updates on previously announced Capcom video games, such as Exoprimal, Capcom Fighting Collection, Dragon’s Dogma, and of course, Resident Evil. The studio had quite a few announcements about upcoming Resident Evil projects — here’s a recap of RE content at the Capcom Showcase 2022.

‘Resident Evil Re: Verse’ release date set for Oct. 28

Resident Evil Re:Verse was supposed to launch alongside Resident Evil 8: Village in May 2021. However, the multiplayer game experienced several delays so that Capcom could continue working on it. Now, as the Capcom Showcase 2022 revealed, Resident Evil Re:Verse will launch with Village’s DLC on Oct. 28. Re:Verse takes on a different approach from other Resident Evil games in that it’s a six-person deathmatch battle between various Resident Evil characters.

‘Resident Evil Village’ DLC gets 3 new features and release date

The showcase also included an in-depth look at the Resident Evil Village DLC, called Winters’ Expansion. The expansion comes with three distinctive features — for starters, it adds a third-person perspective, so players have the option to switch from the standard first-person. As PlayStation Blog notes, this will allow players to “see Ethan as he faces off against his enemies.”

Next, there’s a new mode called The Mercenaries: Additional Orders. This “arcade-like action shooting experience” adds a few playable characters with unique skills, including the nine-foot-tall Alcina Dimitrescu. Chris Redfield and Karl Heisenberg also appear as playable characters.

Finally, it wouldn’t be an expansion without a new story: Shadow of Rose. The story follows Ethan’s daughter, Rosemary Winters, and takes place 16 years after Village’s main campaign. Rose is “struggling with terrifying powers” and “enters the consciousness of the Megamycete” to find answers. The showcase included a trailer for the DLC, as well as some images from Shadow of Rose.

Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion arrives on Oct. 28. Fans can purchase the DLC separately or as part of the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, which also includes Resident Evil Re:Verse. The Gold Edition will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam, and Google Stadia.

Next-gen upgrades for 3 ‘Resident Evil’ games are available now

Fans of the Resident Evil series now have the chance to play older games on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Capcom Showcase 2022 revealed that next-gen upgrades are available for 2017’s Resident Evil 7, 2019’s Resident Evil 2 Remake, and 2020’s Resident Evil 3 Remake. These upgrades include ray tracing, 4K support, 3D audio, and high frame rates.

Lastly, the Capcom Showcase 2022 included a new gameplay trailer for Resident Evil 4 Remake. The brief video offered a recap of the story, which takes place in Raccoon City six years after the events of the previous remakes. Leon S. Kennedy, who survived “the Raccoon City incident,” now works as an agent for the President of the United States. He must head to Europe to rescue the president’s daughter.

The trailer also teased a “complete redesign” of the game’s enemies, known as the ganado.

“The experience of being attacked by hordes of crazed ganado is truly an iconic moment from Resident Evil,” said director Yasuhiro Anpo.

The clip showed scenes of Leon in an eerie forest as he analyzes the dangers ahead. Capcom promised to share more details on Resident Evil 4 Remake later. But for now, there’s a release date: March 24, 2023.
