‘Captain America 4’: Sam Wilson Will Reportedly Take Over Another Role Left Behind By Steve Rogers

Chris Evans handed the Captain America shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in the final moments of ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ After some back and forth Wilson took on the role in the season finale of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.’ But that is not the only role that Wilson will take over as the new Captain America.

Captain America’s story continued in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. With Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) now retired, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) has taken over the mantle for Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But that’s not the only role Steve left behind that Sam will reportedly take over.

Why Bucky Barnes could never be Captain America in the MCU

Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) had a run as Captain America in the Marvel comics. But the ending to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier confirmed that he could never take over the role in the MCU.

As the Winter Soldier, Bucky was officially considered an Avenger. But as Screen Rant points out, Sam’s logic in episode 5 of how Bucky could heal made it difficult for him to continue on that same symbolic path.

Sam told Bucky that he would have to atone for what he did as the Winter Soldier — not avenge — in order to heal. He literally can’t be an Avenger in the future if he wants to forgive himself and live in peace.

Bucky’s true healing process was skipped over

The finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier faced criticism for how they wrapped Bucky’s storyline. They essentially skipped over his healing process, only giving him a short moment with the father of the victim who’d been haunting him.

The majority of the exchange took place off-screen. As a result, it was hard for many fans to buy the notion that Bucky could simply move on from all of the crimes he committed. Not to mention the victims he left in his wake as the Winter Soldier. Bucky got his happy ending, even if it was rushed.

Sam Wilson isn’t just taking over the Captain America role

As the MCU continues to unfold, the expectation is that there will eventually be a Captain America 4 and Avengers 5. Now that Sam is Captain America, it’s his story that Marvel will continue to tell. But, that’s not the only role Steve left behind that Sam will take over.

Sam’s speech to Bucky about making amends and healing was proof that he’s ready to take on Cap’s role as leader of the Avengers. With Steve, Tony Stark, and Natasha Romanoff gone, Sam appears to be the best candidate to lead the next team of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the MCU.

How did Sam Wilson get here?

Marvel will be introducing a number of new super-powered characters in Phase 4. But, most likely, only a select few will be the core members of the next team of Avengers. Only one can be the leader, and Sam seems to be a perfect choice.

MCU fans first met Sam in the famous “on your left” scene in Captain America: Winter Soldier. Sam and Steve eventually became friends, and Sam proved himself to be an amazing fighter with his EXO-7 wings.

Despite the fact he lacked superpowers, he became Falcon and a member of the Avengers.

Who will join Captain America on the next team of Avengers?

Sam isn’t just a good fighter with experience going up against a super soldier. He’s also proven himself to be a good leader who displays empathy and courage. That makes him the obvious choice to spearhead the Avengers. But, who will join him on the new team?

Could it be Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Shuri (Letitia Wright), and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)? This would be a strong team, with Sam as the leader. And of course, Steve always wanted to pass the Captain America shield to Sam. It looks like that was the right decision.
