Captain Marvel Could Have Glowed In the Dark
She’s also extremely powerful, and fans are excited to see how her powers are depicted moving forward. After one scene in her first film, some fans think there’s an opportunity to make her look exceedingly cool in an upcoming battle sequence by glowing in the dark. Here’s how that could happen.
What are Captain Marvel’s powers?
According to the Marvel website, Carol’s DNA is mutated by an alien device. After this occurs, “Danvers transformed from a merely brilliant pilot into one of the most powerful superheroes in the universe.” Her powers include:
- The ability to create energy blasts
- The ability to fly in space
- She can control any form of radiation or gravity
- Superhuman strength
This gave Marvel a lot to play with when they brought her to the big screen.
Captain Marvel in the MCU
In a universe full of powerful characters, Captain Marvel is one of the most powerful. In her debut film, she was able to win in combat against a number of Kree soldiers rather easily. The true test of her power came in Avengers: Endgame, however. That’s when she stared down one of the most powerful beings in the universe.
At the beginning of the film, it is Carol who the Avengers send onto Thanos’ home planet to see where he is. That shows that she’s the only one they truly trust to have the power to take him on in single combat if needed.
Later, during the film’s climactic battle, she holds her own while fighting Thanos directly. She fares just about better than any of the other Avengers, showcasing her power.
So what does this mean? It means that she might be the single most powerful entity. Whenever she shows up, she promises pain for her enemies. There’s one way fans think she could make a grand entrance before a fight that has already been teased.
How could Marvel have made Captain Marvel look even cooler?
In her debut film, Captain Marvel got plenty of opportunities to show off her powers. This continued in Avengers: Endgame when she helped the Avengers take on Thanos. Some fans thought she could have looked even more powerful, however.
One on Reddit even suggested she could have created an effect similar to another classic character, Darth Vader. They referenced a scene from Captain Marvel where she shows the ability to glow in the dark, and compared it to a certain Sith Lord:
“the same way darth vader turned on his light saber, scared the rebels and killed them all. it would be pretty great if carol just lit up in the dark and just started clobbering some fools at one point.”
The scene being referenced is in Rogue One, when Vader’s glimmering red lightsaber ignites and signals the Rebel soldiers’ impending doom. Having Carol light up before battle would have produced a similar effect — only this time, in the name of good. This was an effect that Disney recently recreated when Luke Skywalker showed up in the season two finale of The Mandalorian. His green lightsaber illuminated directly before he sprung into action, creating a cool visual effect.
While this didn’t necessarily happen in Avengers: Endgame, it doesn’t mean it can’t happen somewhere else. Marvel has already announced Captain Marvel 2. Barring a total box office collapse, a third film is all but assured. Carol seems to be a character who will play a pivotal role in the Avengers going forward as well, so expect to see plenty of her in the MCU. It wouldn’t be surprising if she got a chance to light up the screen in more ways than one.
