The entertainment industry is full of self-made people. However, no one has a story quite as colorful as Cardi B. The Bronx-born rapper literally exploded onto the scene in the past several years, becoming one of the most talked-about people on the planet.

The 28-year-old was an exotic dancer coming out of high school as she tried to save money to attend college. Her larger-than-life personality allowed her to make a name for herself, and she eventually landed a role on the hit reality series, Love & Hip-Hip: New York. However, reality TV was not where Cardi wanted to stay.

Investing in herself, Cardi pushed out her mixtape and her hit single “Bodack Yellow,” and the rest is history. Now, just a handful of years later, the Grammy Award winner has done nearly everything imaginable. From seeing massive success to collaborating with big brands like Reebok and attending various events.

Yet, despite all that she has accomplished, Cardi says she’s never satisfied.

Cardi B is extremely ambitious

When you don’t come from a lot and wind up on top of the world, that doesn’t come from out of the blue. No matter what anyone’s personal feelings are about the Invasion of Privacy rapper are, it’s no secret that she’s worked extremely hard.

Cardi is always plotting her next move because she knows what it feels like to have nothing. “I’m such an ambitious person,” she explained to Footwear News. “I feel like I lost so much. Now that I’m winning, it’s a very addicting feeling,”

Still, Cardi’s ambition and the pressure of the industry have often been overwhelming at times.

Cardi B feels a lot of pressure in the music industry

Though Cardi has learned to listen to her voice and tune out trolls and haters, she admits that sometimes the demands of the industry do get to her.

“Throughout this whole time people were making rumors like, ‘Oh she’s having problems with her label,’ ‘Her label is shelving her,’ ‘Her label is tired of her and they’re getting more female talent,’” Cardi said in an interview with SiriusXM radio. “It’s like, no, they never tired of me. Labels, they want you to put music out. That’s what they love. They want you to put music out all the time, all the time.”

Cardi says that she realized she had to take a step back and listen to her instincts, even if it took longer for her to put out music and projects. “That type of sh*t started to get to me, but it’s like, I’m not gonna let that sh*t get to me to the point that I’m going to put out a song that I’m not really in love with,” she explained.

Cardi B is never satisfied

Though she’s focused on putting out work on her own terms and listening to her voice, Cardi revealed that she’s rarely satisfied. Instead, she’s always looking to push herself further. She told Footwear News,

I always wonder if I’m going to be satisfied. I’m hard on my entire team. We don’t focus on nobody else, we are just focusing on our last — the last music video, the last collaboration, we always compare it to our last best. We want to do better and better. When I do something positive and when I see my things selling out or my record doing pretty good, I get this crazy rush of happiness, but then it’s this rush of overwhelmingness that makes me want more [and] want more.

It looks like Cardi’s hard work and drive is paying off in major ways.
