Cardi B wants to perform ‘WAP’ live

Due to the coronavirus, in-person concerts are not possible in the U.S. and other countries around the world.

“Everything has completely changed because of the pandemic,” Cardi B told i-D. “You know, I was constantly on the road, now I’m mostly at home with my baby. Everything that I had planned for this year has to be rescheduled for God knows when. So it’s just crazy, it’s a lot.”

Still, Cardi B hopes to be able to perform “WAP” in front of fans sooner rather than later.

“Yoooo I wanna perform WAP so bad with a lot a** crowd.I miss shows and festivals..Yoooooo I would of went crazy,” the rapper tweeted.

Fans responded to the rapper’s tweet asking her to perform “WAP” at the upcoming Billboard Music Awards, which will be held on Oct. 14.

Cardi B responds to critics of the song

While “WAP” received widespread critical acclaim in addition to its commercial success, some conservative figures criticized the song’s sexual innuendoes and themes. Cardi B told i-D that she did not expect such viral reactions from conservative commentators and lawmakers.

“I’ve been really surprised by the reaction, honestly… I knew it was gonna have a big impact, I guess, because of me and Megan. But I didn’t know it was going to be so controversial. I never expected that, you know, conservatives and Republicans were going to be talking about the song,” she said. “I didn’t think the song was as vulgar as they said it was, you know? Like, I’m so used to it. I’m such a freak that I didn’t think it would be a big deal. I didn’t think people would think it was so out of this world…”

The rapper also added that the criticism does not bother her.

“It doesn’t make me angry,” she said. “It makes me happy. They keep talking and the numbers keep going up. At the end of the day, whatever they’re saying, the numbers speak for themselves.”
