Carmelo Anthony made sure La La Anthony had a memorable Mother’s Day. Taking to Instagram, he posted a sweet tribute to the Power actress on May 10 in which he praised La La for her role in raising their son, Kiyan, and being “the anchor to [their] family.”

It was a sweet message to fans who have followed their relationship over the years. But some people are upset that he only highlighted La La and not another woman who claims he’s allegedly the father of her child.

Inside Carmelo Anthony’s marriage to La La Anthony

Anthony began dating La La after meeting her in 2003. The pair got engaged the following year and welcomed Kiyan in 2007. Three years later, the stars married in a large ceremony in New York City. Among the guests were LeBron James and La La’s BFF Kim Kardashian West.

Aside from a couple of dark spots, the couple appeared to have a great relationship. But things took a turn in April 2017 when sources told TMZ Sports that a woman was claiming to be six months pregnant with Anthony’s child. The woman was later revealed to be Mia Angel Burks, a commoner who reportedly met Anthony at a club during the summer of 2016.

The alleged affair is said to be why the couple briefly split the same year. As a source told E! News:

“They are done. He got this woman pregnant. La La was really upset. She knew he was messing around and they had a moment where they were going to call it quits, but Carmelo wanted to save it … Carmelo did not tell La La. She found out on her own, and at that point it was too late and Carmelo could not dig himself out of it. She still doesn’t know the whole truth.”

What has Carmelo Anthony said about the alleged affair?

As of writing, it appears that Anthony has never directly addressed it. But sources who are supposedly close to him have pushed back on the rumors, including an insider for The New York Daily News who said: “That rumor is absolutely not true. The baby thing is not true.”

In August 2017, Burks gave birth to a baby girl named Genesis Harlo, according to Black Sports Online. When later asked on social media if there had been a DNA test to determine Genesis’ father, Burks said yes. Her remarks came shortly after she had called out the NBA star for his alleged absence in Genesis’ life.

Fans slam Carmelo Anthony over his failure to acknowledge Mia Burks on Mother’s Day

After seeing his tribute to La La, fans hit the comment section to call out the basketball star for not recognizing Burks or Genesis.

“What about ya other bm? And ya daughter. and you wonder why you aint got no ring. god aint blessn no mess,” read one comment.

“You forgot to post the other baby mama too………” said another.

“See.. This is what I don’t like! Yea, Lala your wife. But if you’re gonna acknowledge one of your children’s mother, acknowledge the other!” commented a third fan on coverage by the blog The Neighborhood Talk.

Others, however, said he didn’t need to acknowledge Burks and/or cast doubt over her claims that Anthony is actually Genesis’ father.

The comments on Anthony’s post have been limited, but it is unclear whether it was already set that way or if Anthony changed his settings amid the backlash.

For her part, Burks did not address the drama. But when asked earlier in the year if she thought Anthony would go public with Genesis like Drake did with his son in March, she reportedly laughed at the idea.
