Though it’s only just begun, 2020 has already brought with it quite a few Marvel Cinematic Universe announcements. In fact, another of the most powerful heroes has a return date in the works. But our question is: With how her timeline has stretched, how old is Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers? Learn more about the upcoming sequel Captain Marvel 2 and the heroine’s age here.

Brie Larson is Carol Danvers

Larson stars as Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. This was the character’s introduction to the MCU. When we meet her, Carol is going by the name Vers, and she’s a member of the Kree Starforce. But when she crash lands on Earth in the year 1995, she soon learns who she really is.

Viewers are shown numerous flashbacks meant to fill in the gaps of knowledge in Carol’s past, as she does the same. Based on context clues, her job status, and some general guessing, fans have placed Carol’s age in 1995 to be between 30 and 35 years old, meaning she was born in the early to mid-1960s.

The character returned in ‘Avengers: Endgame’

At the end of Captain Marvel, the titular hero heads back out into the universe, in order to help those in need. Meanwhile, Nick Fury stays on Earth and creates the Avenger Initiative. For years, Danvers remains an unknown operative — that is, until the events of Avengers: Infinity War bring her back to check on her missing friend.

Avengers: Endgame begins in 2018, with the action resuming in 2023. That would make Captain Marvel in her 50s or possibly even her 60s during the events of the film (in which, for a minute there, it looked like she might be able to take down Thanos singlehandedly).

How old is Carol Danvers?

So, technically speaking, Carol Danvers is not the oldest Avenger. That prize goes to James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, though Steve Rogers is right there behind him. However, like her similarly senior-aged compatriots, she looks very good for age — too good, in fact. This was explained in Captain Marvel.

In the film, the Supreme Intelligence (played by Annette Bening, taking on the form of Mar-Vell) tells our heroine, “Your life began the day it nearly ended. We found you with no memory. We made you one of us. So you could live longer, stronger, superior. You were reborn.” In other words, Carol, like Bucky and Steve, ages very slowly.

‘Captain Marvel 2’ has been announced

Now, onto the big news. Captain Marvel 2 has been an inevitability since the first film was released in March 2019. After all, the movie made over $1 billion worldwide, surpassing several other MCU favorites. And with Larson just beginning to get into the character, we’re excited for what’s to come.

On Jan. 22, 2020, fans were finally gifted with legitimate news on that front. A script is in the works, with WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell at the helm. The film is thought to take place in the present day. Captain Marvel 2 will hopefully arrive in 2022, meaning that Carol will, most likely, be about the same age as she was in Avengers: Endgame.
