B.J. Novak Defends Friend Ashton Kutcher Amidst Demi Moore’s Cheating Accusations

Ashton Kutcher is one of the most magnetic men in Hollywood. Since his early days on That ’70s Show, the 42-year-old has been able to charm anyone who was around, including the ladies. He has been in several high-profile relationships including Brittany Murphy, January Jones, and of course, former co-star and current wife, Mila Kunis.

But before the Punk’d host found his happily ever after with his current wife, Kutcher was married to Ghost star Demi Moore. Though the couple has been divorced for nearly a decade, Moore’s new memoir thrust the details of their relationship back into the spotlight. Most of the couple’s current and former friends have stayed mum on the subject. But during a recent appearance on You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes, B.J. Novak, The Office star and a regular on Punk’d, defended his friend amidst the ongoing scrutiny of Kutcher’s behavior.

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore’s unpredictable relationship

In 2003 Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore were an unlikely pairing. Kutcher was just 25-years-old and still starring in That ’70s Show and Moore was 40, and just three years out of her divorce from Bruce Willis. For most fans, it was a relationship that nobody saw coming.

Against all odds, there was something oddly good about the couple. The two were happy together and there was something that was just right about the pairing. Within no time, Kutcher, Moore, and her children with Willis were one big happy family.

But ultimately, the relationship wasn’t meant to last. Rumors that Kutcher was cheating led to the couple’s divorce in 2013. Two years later, Kutcher and Kunis tied the knot and have been together ever since.

Demi Moore discusses Kutcher’s cheating in her new memoir

There was never any question that infidelity led to the end of Kutcher and Moore’s eight-year relationship. That was clear from the start. But the actress recently released a memoir and went into quite a bit of detail about her past with The Ranch star.

In her new book, Inside Out, Moore revealed that the couple participated in a threesome. She said she wasn’t thrilled with the idea but wanted to be the “cool wife.” But that decision to have a threesome is one Moore primarily credits with destroying her relationship. In her memoir, Moore wrote, “Because we had brought a third party into our relationship. Ashton said that blurred the lines and, to some extent, justified what he’d done.”

B.J. Novak defends Ashton Kutcher

Whenever there is cheating in a relationship, people take sides. Cheating is one of those unspeakable sins that many people find unforgivable. So regardless of the backstory, many fans thought that Kutcher was 100% in the wrong.

During a recent episode of You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes, Pete Holmes and Novak casually brought up Kutcher. What started as a quick joke about being “punk’d” quickly turned into a discussion of Kutcher’s qualifications to be a mayor and his previous infidelities.

Holmes immediately made it apparent that Kutcher’s actions were wrong, essentially saying that he would be unfit to hold office because of his affair. But that’s when guest B.J. Novak stepped in. Kutcher and Novak worked together on Punk’d and have since remained friends.

While Novak agreed that infidelity is wrong, he blamed the circumstances involved, pointing to the threesome. Both parties agreed that the affair was “not cool,” but Novak noted, “I think, especially if you are bending the rules of traditional relationships, they need to be very clear, and they need to be followed.”

Moving forward in the conversation, Novak questioned Moore’s right to talk about the details of their relationship in the book, saying, “I would also say, it’s not cool to write about that in a book.” Does the affair give the actress the right to write about it? Is one worse than the other? Ultimately, when it comes down to it, most people would probably agree, both actions are “not cool.”
