Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani quickly became the sweethearts of The Voice when they got together. The two seemed so enamored with one another on-screen and on social media that lots of fans deemed them “goals.” But with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic keeping a lot of people home, some couples have been struggling to get through quarantine together. Has that been the case for Stefani and Shelton?

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s relationship

Shelton and Stefani had a bit of an unlikely romance. The two met in 2014 while hosting The Voice. But they were both still married.

“Nobody except for my parents, the people involved, and whoever they told,” Stefani told Cosmopolitan of who knew how bad her marriage to Gavin Rossdale had gotten. “Nobody would believe it if I could really say what happened. I went through months and months of torture.”

Stefani filed for divorce from Rossdale in 2015, and Shelton divorced his second wife, Miranda Lambert, that same year.

In November 2015, Stefani and Shelton became official.

In a 2016 Billboard story, Shelton credited Stefani with saving his life after he broke up with Lambert.

“It went from…checking in on each other once a week through email … to ‘Hey here’s my phone number if you ever want to text.’ Next thing I know, I wake up and she’s all I care about and I’m wondering if she feels the same about me,” he said.

Rumors of strain on the relationship

Stefani and Shelton have been spending most of their time quarantined in Oklahoma at Shelton’s ranch. Rumors have been spreading recently that the nonstop time together has been too much for the couple.

“They feel suffocated and stressed,” a source told Us Weekly. “They’re both stretched to the limit.

The source went on to allege that a lot of the tension has come from their move into a new mansion in Los Angeles.

“Friends say this move has turned into a nightmare,” the source said. “This is the toughest period they’ve had so far without a doubt.”

Has quarantine really ruined Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s relationship?

Though the rumors have been making it seem like Stefani and Shelton are close to breaking up, Stefani herself said spending all her time with Shelton and her kids has been “magical” because they “don’t ever have that much solid time together.”

“We did do a lot of fun stuff,” she said in a first look at the new season of The Voice obtained by Entertainment Tonight. “We did a lot of cooking. I learned how to make sourdough bread like everybody else; it took me like a month to get the starter right. We did so much stuff. We built a garden. We planted zinnias. I mean, we planted thousands of zinnia flowers. It was a lot of stuff that you dream about doing that you never have time to do.”

Shelton said the two have spent their time making a lot of jam out of the peaches that grow on his property. The two will both return as full-time judges to season 19 of The Voice, which premieres Oct. 19.
