Channing Tatum and his ex-wife Jenna Dewan were one of Hollywood’s favorite couples for a brief spell. The actors and accomplished dancers met on the set of a movie and eventually got married. However, while the couple eventually got a divorce, Tatum never shied away from sharing their most private details. Speaking about their sex life, he once credited Dewan’s athleticism with keeping things fresh.

Channing Tatum’s career

According to IMDb, Tatum got his start as a dancer. He appeared in several music videos, like Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs” before trying his hand at acting. He secured small parts in CSI: Miami and several commercials before Coach Carter gave him some exposure to success. However, after Step Up was a surprise hit in 2006, Tatum and Dewan officially broke out. Tatum got his start in several roles that showcased his dancing skills and model looks, but as his career fleshed out, he proved that he could be a true actor, too.

From the 21 Jump Street series to the Oscar-nominated Foxcatcher, Tatum made a name for himself beyond his looks and moves. Still, with films like Magic Mikehe showed that he could use his sex appeal and talent in the same package. It was one of his biggest hits to date. Never one to shy away from his sexuality, Tatum opened up about how he and Dewan kept things heated with Cosmopolitan.

A match made in heaven

In a book reported on by Fox News, Dewan opened up about the pair’s relationship and eventual breakup. According to Dewan, the team hit it off while filming Step Up. Both young actors who were trying to make it to the big leagues, the pair developed a relationship that lasted many years. According to Tatum, the trick was learning how to please one another not just out in public but in their most private moments too.

During a Cosmopolitan discussion on Facebook about their relationship, Tatum claimed that Dewan was an excellent lover who did not require him to do much of anything. “I just lay there … She’s really athletic. We get down. We have a great sex life. We communicate very well.” Candid moments like this had many figuring that the couple was bound for longevity. Unfortunately, like so many other celebrity romances before it, the pair called it quits several years later. However, it doesn’t mean that it was an ugly divorce, either.

After years as one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples, Tatum and Dewan called it quits. While rumors swirled of infidelity, hard times, and other salacious details, Dewan and Tatum presented it as a mutual decision rooted in love and friendship.

“We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple,” they said. “We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together … There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision—just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible. We are still a family and will always be loving dedicated parents to Everly,” the pair wrote in a statement published by Elle.

While they were not as candid with their breakup as they were with the relationship, they appeared to keep the good vibes rolling in the aftermath. When Dewan announced her engagement to Steve Kazee, Tatum remained silent. However, Tatum, who moved on to pop star Jessie J, was reportedly happy for his ex.

Hollywood relationships are infamous for their short shelf life. However, while Tatum and Dewan were another casualty of this trend, the pair had a seemingly healthy relationship while it lasted. Sometimes, divorce isn’t an ugly separation, but a gesture where two people with mutual respect realize that they are better apart. Tatum and Dewan may have had a healthy relationship at one point. Still, they appear to be doing just fine away from each other.
