Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam has been somewhat open about his relationship with longtime love Morgana McNelis. He even got himself into some hot water when he revealed he and his love of 15 years see marriage quite differently back in January. But, since celebrated his milestone 40th birthday, could the star of The Gentlemen finally be ready to tie the knot?

Charlie Hunnam turns 40

Hunnam apparently laid low while celebrating his 40th, but that didn’t stop his frequent collaborator Guy Ritchie from praising the former Sons of Anarchy star with a tribute video he posted on Instagram. Ritchie and Hunnam — who worked together on 2017’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and 2020’s The Gentlemen — have a special relationship as evidenced by the sweet montage Ritchie put together.

“Charlie Hunnam, I’ll tell you what’s great about him,” Ritchie says at the beginning of the post. “Everything.”

The video montage is made up of pictures from both The Gentlemen and King Arthur showing the actor and his director in behind-the-scenes shots, most of which have never been seen.

At the end of the clip, Ritchie proclaims, “I just adore him.”

And the feeling is mutual. When Charlie Hunnam opened up about King Arthur being a box office bust, it wasn’t the film’s lack of success that disappointed him, People reports it was that it would be a long time before he worked with Ritchie again.

“I really like Guy, both as a fan and as a collaborator,” Hunnam said. “I was super excited to work with him the first time on King Arthur; we had high hopes to make a series of films and explore that whole Arthurian legend. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out, and one of the things I was most bummed out about our inability to keep making those movies is I didn’t get to work with Guy again as quickly as I thought I was going to.”

Morgana McNelis holds down the fort while Hunnam works

Charlie Hunnam, 40, and jewelry designer McNelis, 36, have been going strong for 15 years, despite having a somewhat unconventional relationship. They have kind of a hot and cold relationship with the media. While he openly talks about his relationship in interviews and on talk shows, she chooses not to walk the red carpet at his premieres.

Despite the circumstances of their relationship, an inside source recently told US Weekly, that “They’re doing great, They’re so cute together and in love.”

The couple has had to weather some speculation from the press. While filming Triple Frontier in 2018, Hunnam was spotted strolling with a bikini-clad mystery woman on the beach. Fans quickly jumped to scandalous conclusions, which were quickly shot down.

“The girl on the beach is a cast member,” a source clarified. “They are friends.”

“Charlie and Morgana are very much in love,” a source told Us Weekly at the time. “Morgana is holding down the fort while Charlie is away.”

That was not the only time that McNelis had to hold down the fort. While Charlie Hunnam was in Cambodia filming the Lost City of Z with Robert Pattinson, he was unable to speak to McNelis for five months.

“The mail system [there] doesn’t really work very well. It’s completely unreliable,” the heartthrob told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “I received a letter from her, and I realized that from the tone of it and [the] things she was saying that she hadn’t received the two letters that I sent before. … My girlfriend is a jewelry designer, so I was able to come back with an appropriately sized gift. It didn’t remedy all of the trouble I was in, but it got me halfway there.”

Are Hunnam and McNelis ready to marry?

During the aforementioned interview that got Hunnam into some hot water with McNelis, the Sons of Anarchy star proclaimed that he was “indifferent” to marriage. While also revealing that his girlfriend did not feel the same way.

“She does not feel the same. She’s very eager,” he told Andy Cohen while promoting The Gentlemen. “I’ll do it because it’s important to her, but I don’t have any great romantic feelings toward it.”

Obviously, McNelis was not thrilled with her beau’s statement. Charlie Hunnam even went so far as to explain that he deeply regretted the statements days later when Too Fab caught up with him at LAX.

“I have to say that really hurt my girlfriend’s feelings,” Charlie admitted. “I really regretted saying that, cause I actually didn’t mean it at all. it was just, frankly, some stupid s**t I said in the heat of the moment.”

He went on to explain that doing so many interviews in so many days, a guy like him was bound to say “some stupid s**t.”

So, will they marry anytime soon? Looks like they are happy with where things are at the moment, but Hunnam also that the thought of marriage does not make him nervous in that same interview at LAX.

“But we are certainly coming up to that time where we gotta start switching it up and changing gears a little bit. It doesn’t really make me nervous because we’ve been together for so long, we’ve been together 14 years, you know? You occasionally hear stories of things changing once you get married, and people’s relationships… but I couldn’t foresee that happening with us, because we know each other so well.”

Charlie Hunnam and Morgana McNelis have not commented on any wedding plans.
