Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo’s characters just got engaged on ‘Chicago Fire’

During the penultimate episode of season 9, Severide proposed to Stella after she got promoted to Lieutenant. He actually proposed to her during a fire, even though she indicated she didn’t want to marry again.

But all the questions surrounding Severide and Stella’s future could be moot after Severide and his team found their lives hanging in the balance during an underwater boat rescue on Lake Michigan.

The season ended with the team out of air and the water rising above their heads after a boat collapsed on top of them. A concerned Stella was waiting back on shore looking out at the lake before the episode faded to black.

Rumors have been swirling about Taylor Kinney’s possible exit

Kinney has been the series co-lead of Chicago Fire alongside Jesse Spencer’s Captain Matthew Casey ever since its premiere in 2012. But rumors have been swirling for months that Kinney was done after season 9.

As Showbiz Cheat Sheet previously reported, Kinney’s contract was up at the end of the most recent season and there have been no reports of a renewal. The actor initially had a seven-season contract when Chicago Fire began, and he renewed for two more seasons in 2019.

When showrunner Derek Haas told Entertainment Tonight ahead of the season 9 finale that he was going to drive the audience “crazy” in the final 10 minutes, many fans believed that was a set up for Kinney’s exit.

“If you watch the last 10 minutes, you might be cursing my name all summer long,” Haas said.

Mayo’s post had many fans convinced that she had accidentally revealed she and Kinney were filming season 10 together. But that’s not the only hint that has left fans hopeful. A Facebook post that called for extras in a baby shower scene had fans sharing theories on Reddit.

Many jumped to the conclusion that the scene was for Joe Cruz’s wife’s baby. Which would indicate that Severide and his team made it out of the boat accident alive.
