After securing evidence against Cooper, Dr. Sharon Goodwin and Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) shared their findings with Peter Kalmick (Marc Grapey), the Head of Legal Department at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Although Peter was shocked by their discovery, he urged them not to contact the FBI.

Since Cooper’s father-in-law is a board member, he said it would be in the hospital’s best interest to handle the issue privately. Goodwin agrees but secretly contacts the FBI and gives them information about the Vascom scandal.

The fall finale ends with Peter leaving Goodwin a note that reads: “There will be fallout.” Based on the letter, it’s not looking good for Goodwin, and Dr. Halstead may receive some backlash as well – since he knew about Cooper and what he was hiding. So, will Goodwin lose her job at the hospital?

So, will Goodwin lose her job at the hospital? Although her employment status is unknown, the doctor is definitely in some hot water. In an interview with TV Insider, Chicago Med showrunner Diane Frolov shared that Goodwin will face some serious “repercussions” from the Vascom scandal.

“After we come back from the break, there’s going to be repercussions from what [happened],” she said. Meanwhile, executive producer Andrew Schneider added, “Particularly for Will and Goodwin.” So, will they both lose their jobs? For now, fans will have to wait and see what happens next in the second half of Chicago Med Season 7, which is set to return on Jan. 5, 2022.

Is S. Epatha Merkerson leaving the show?

Since Goodwin’s job is in jeopardy, many fans wonder if S. Epatha Merkerson will make her departure from the show. Aside from the storyline, fans are concerned about the character’s future because the 69-year-old actor currently stars on Law & Order, which was brought back by NBC. So, is Merkerson exiting the show? Luckily, the Chicago Med star is not leaving the show anytime soon.

While Goodwin may face some difficulty in Chicago Med Season 7, the character and the actor are staying put. Moreover, Merkerson’s role in Law & Order does not conflict with her commitment to Chicago Med. According to Collider, actor Camryn Manheim will portray a new character named Lieutenant Kate Dixon, who will replace Merkerson’s character,  Lt. Van Buren. And, the actor has not publicly announced her departure from the show. So, it’s safe to say that Dr. Goodwin isn’t going anywhere.

Chicago Med airs on NBC.
