Chicago P.D. Season 9 is approaching the end, and the season hasn’t had any significant deaths so far. Voight, Upton, and Halstead risked prison time after the murder of Roy Walton, Burgess and Ruzek nearly lost Makayla to kidnappers, and Atwater found a new love interest. It seems possible that a significant character death could be coming before the end of the season. Here’s who we think might get the ax.

Anna Avalos is in danger working undercover for Voight

Chicago P.D. Season 9 introduced Anna Avalos, a C.I. who started working with Hank Voight to bring down Los Temidos. Anna has had a rough life, and many of the people close to her have died. She and Voight have that in common.

As Anna continues her undercover work, things get more and more dangerous. Anna managed to befriend Javier Escano and is working to take him down. Showrunner Gwen Sigan stated that Anna will appear in the final two episodes of season 9.

“We will definitely see more,” Sigan told TVLine. “You’ll see [Anna] in the penultimate episode, and you will see her in the final episode as well.” Anna is certainly in a position where she could get killed, which would be a devastating blow to Voight.

Burgess or Ruzek could meet their end in ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9

It seems a little far-fetched to think that any members of Voight’s small intelligence unit (Burgess, Ruzek, Atwater, Voight, Halstead, and Upton) will die before the end of Chicago P.D. Season 9. It would be a big shake-up to the show’s cast, but a central character’s death isn’t impossible. If one of these characters does lose their life, Burgess and Ruzek seem like the most likely options.

Patrick Flueger and Marina Squerciati aren’t ruling it out. While speaking with US Weekly, the actors joked that they frequently think about the possibility of their characters getting killed off. “Every episode!” Squerciati told the outlet. “You just never know.” At the end of the interview, she stated, “If the series finale was tomorrow, I think that they would have like … ” Flueger interrupted: “Me, die!”

Celeste might get caught in the crossfire; Torres could have a tragic end

Some of the more minor characters introduced this season could get killed off before the Chicago P.D. Season 9 finale. Atwater had a romantic relationship with Celeste, but things ended when she found out he was hiding the fact that he is a police officer. Celeste hasn’t been seen since the breakup, but she may reappear before the end of the season.

Additionally, Halstead joined forces with a police recruit named Dante Torres from the academy in the episode “New Guard.” Torres has a compelling backstory, and Halstead could learn from him too. However, Torres could also meet his end during a dangerous mission if he returns.

Chicago P.D. Season 9 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
