Fans of Chicago P.D. have a lot to tune in for: intense drama, the characters’ abilities to solve crimes, and also some romantic intrigue between beloved characters. However, there is one character where romance is not just on the back burner, but completely out of the realm of possibility.

Hank Voight is the leader of his Chicago P.D. team, but he’s not in the mood for love. At least not yet.

There has been speculation that Hank Voight may be ready to find love again after his tragic past. However, whether it is a very special character from another television world such as Olivia Benson or someone new that comes into his life is still yet to be seen.

Fans have some ideas for a love interest for Voight

Just because Hank Voight isn’t currently dating anyone on the show doesn’t mean that fans haven’t weighed in on who they think would be the perfect match for Hank. One of the biggest names thrown out there is none other than Oliva Benson from Law & Order: SVU.

Olivia Benson and Hank Voight were thrown together in some crossover stories between Law & Order: SVU and Chicago P.D. While the two are in separate cities, the law enforcement officers have had the chance to collaborate on a couple of cases in order to catch the bad guys. On-screen, the two characters have a lot of chemistry, and that is why fans are secretly rooting for Voight and Benson to get together.

Sadly, a budding romance was not to be. While Oliva and Hank were working together, the storyline on Law and Order: SVU was that Olivia was dating Internal Affairs officer Ed Tucker. After Tucker’s death, fans renewed hope for this relationship, however, distance and differing personalities may prevent these two from ever giving it a go.

For a serious chance, one of the characters would probably have to move halfway across the country, and even then, it wouldn’t be certain to work out.

Could a newer character be a contender?

Just because Olivia Benson is not an option doesn’t mean that Hank will end up alone for the rest of his life. With the introduction of a new character, Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller, fans are already starting to see the chemistry and tension that the characters bring to their scenes.

Because both characters are very cautious and take their jobs very seriously, fans may have to wait a while to see how any of it plays out. That doesn’t mean that the writers and producers haven’t left the door open for the option sometime in the future — and Jason Beghe dropped hints to US Weekly it could happen.

As with many will-they-won’t-they storylines, show creators want to make sure they get as much tension built up as possible before they give the fans the payoff they expect.

Hank Voight’s past relationship

Hank Voight wasn’t always a loner. At one time, he had been married to a woman named Camille. Camille is the mother of Justin and was a foster mom to Erin Lindsay. Camille died of cancer, but in the episode “Now I’m God” it was discovered that Camille didn’t die of cancer, but instead died from receiving unnecessary chemotherapy treatments.

Dr. Dean Reybold is eventually convicted of the crime against Camille and dozens of other patients. Losing his wife was devastating for Hank, so it is no wonder that romantic relationships after his wife’s death are not really on the radar.

Although fans have their theories, Hank Voight has not officially had another romantic relationship since his wife’s death, leaving open the possibility of Hank looking for love in the upcoming season of Chicago P.D.
