Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have a lot of opinions on which Marvel superhero is the best, but one of them is always near the top of every list.

Captain America is not only the first Avenger, but he’s also one of the most popular superheroes in the MCU. There are many reasons for this, and one of them is the fact the Captain America trilogy was just a solid trilogy. But of course, the other reason is that he’s just a really good guy who can do no wrong.

It also doesn’t hurt that the actor who plays Captain America, Chris Evans, is a good looking guy who sported a fantastic looking beard once or twice.

As the title of Captain America: Civil War might imply, the movie is about a disagreement between Iron Man and Captain America that ultimately leads to Cap leaving the Avengers for a while with a small group of his allies.

While several other MCU movies happened after Captain America: Civil War, it was the last time that audiences saw Cap in a non-cameo role up until he showed up Avengers: Infinity War.

In Avengers: Infinity War, when Cap finally returns, he shows up looking completely different. Obviously, he didn’t have his shield, since it was broken in Captain America: Civil War.

His clothes are similar but different, but the biggest change was the fact that Cap now sported a full beard. These changes were supposed to signify that Cap wasn’t the same Cap that audiences knew anymore, and it worked.

Everyone envies Chris Evans’ beard

Vox wrote that Evans’ beard had a little less than 7 minutes of screen time in Avengers: Infinity War, and that was more than enough time for it to make a big impression on both critics and audiences alike.

Vox reported that some critics declared that his beard was “the most important part” of the movie, while others said that, when Cap shows up beardless in Avengers: Endgame, that the loss of his beard was the biggest loss of the movie.

Marvel fans got a similar impression from Evans’ beard. Marvel fans on Reddit not only complimented Evans’ haircut, but also his beard as well. Some fans said that they got “serious beard envy,” while others agreed with critics by saying that they were sad when Cap showed up without a beard in Avengers: Endgame

Vox said that there may have been several reasons why Evans’ beard was so popular. Obviously, it looks great, but beards also symbolize a combination of aging and rebellion, according to Vox.

Many celebrities have what Vox called an “achievement beard,” which is a beard that they grow after they’ve reached their peak and can retire. That’s pretty much what happens with Cap in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ wasn’t the only time that Captain America had a beard

While Evans has made movies with a beard on his face, such as Snowpiercer, he actually had a beard in one other MCU movie. In the post-credits scene of The Avengers, Cap is eating shawarma with the rest of the Avengers.

This was the follow up to a joke that Iron Man made earlier in the movie, but this post-credits scene was actually shot very close to the release of the movie.

As a result, Evans was actually sporting a beard when they shot that post-credit scene. However, since this scene takes place right after the events of the movie, it wouldn’t make sense for Cap to have a beard since he didn’t have a beard during the movie.

That’s why in the scene, Cap is covering his face. This was the only other time that Cap had a beard in the MCU, so far at least.
